On your next trip to the gro\ Wicery store, browse around the = produce section and buy a green vegetable that you haven’t eaten in a long time or have never had before. Your mom always told you that green vegetables were good for you. She was right. Here’s why. Green vegetables contain thousands of different vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals that help to reduce your risk of diseases. These disease fighting nutrients include folate, Vitamin C canotenokds, potassiur gne! calcium; and the phytonutrients lutein, zeaxanthin, quercetin, and indoles. Not all green veggies contain all of these nutrients, so it is important to eat a variety of green veggies. Studies have shown that eating more fruits and vegetables help to reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and macular degeneration. They can help lower your blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, improve your memory, and help manage depression Strive to eat four to seven servings of vegetables each day, three to five from the dark green category. Before you fall out of your seat, let’s take a look at what a serving is. One serving is one cup of leafy greens, /% cup of cooked vegetables, one stalk of broccoli, and/or % cup veal juice.
