Show Volume IV, Issue XII THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 5 October 1, 2001 Fall and Other Happenings in the Canyon By Lorine Murtagh The Ogden Canyon Fall Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, October 6. Have you noticed all the trash and debris along the sides of the roadway? We need you to help us give the canyon a good cleaning before inclement weather sets in, and our Olympic visitors arrive. Meet at the Alaskan Inn at 9:00 a.m. for your assignments. At 12:30 p.m. a free cook-out, to include a drawing for great prizes, will be held at The Oaks for those volunteers who donated their Saturday to cleaning the canyon. Bring your gloves, and we’ll see you there! Fall is fireplace and chimney check time! Have you checked your fireplace and chimney yet? Getting ready for the cold months ahead so you can enjoy your home fire shouldn’t stop at just getting the wood. It should also include having your fireplace and chimney inspected and cleaned. Creosote buildup is the main cause of chimney fires, as well as damaged fireplace walls and chimneys. Thanks, thanks, and thanks again to those who have donated money towards the restoration of the limestone kiln! The Ogden Canyon Club is still collecting donations for the restoration of this historical site located one and one-half miles up the canyon, and at the beginning of the Indian Trail. Ogden Canyon is among the most beautiful places in northern Utah and we are trying to keep it that way with our logo being “For the Preservation and Restoration of Ogden Canyon.” The canyon is steeped with history, tales of years gone by, and visible pieces of pioneer heritage such as the remains of the James Moroni Thomas limestone kiln which was built in 1865. Have you driven by and noticed the progress that has been made so far? Forward your donation to the Ogden Canyon Club, c/o Belinda Rounkles, 750 Ogden Canyon, Ogden, UT 84401. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) may cancel the bus route that services Ogden Canyon. If you believe this service should be continued, do not delay in e-mailing your comments to or rideuta.com, or call (801) 262-5626. There are people in Ogden Canyon and Ogden Valley who have no alternative methods of transportation. You may also be able to make your life easier by “leaving the driving to a bus driver” rather than fighting the increased traffic in the canyon.
