This year’s theme is “An Evening of Elegance.” Even if you aren’t an opera lover, you will love this event— because who doesn’t love chocolate? And you will find chocolate in all its glory at “The Chocolate Affaire.” An admission fee of $30.00 includes access to a beautiful buffet of finger foods, an extensive array of chocolate delicacies, and beverages—including punch, wine, and coffee. Alongside the buffet and beverages, a display of silent auction items for your bidding enjoyment will be available. Anticipate the unusual, along with more practical items, such as food items and gift certificates from various generous, local businesses. This fundraising event relies heavily on monies generated from the silent auction items. Patrons will have a chance to bid on dinner with Anne Ewers, General Director of the Utah Symphony & Opera Company; and also dinner with Keith Lockhart, Conductor of the Utah Symphony. Either of these evenings would be a rare treat! Other items among the silent action items will include a collection of antique Olympic pins. They will be grouped in frames, making them a fascinating collector’s item. The funds generated from this annual event are used to sponsor a performance of an opera at the Capitol Theater, and to host over 100 high school students at a final opera dress rehearsal. The Ogden Opera Guild pays for the rehearsal tickets and bus expenses, and also provides information that is taken into school classes, beforehand, for discussion with students regarding what they are going to experience at the opera. For more information regarding this exciting event, please call 621-3344, or 479-6531. Email: shpvalet@aol.com Free parking is available next to the building. The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Hosts Essay Contests The OGDEN VALLEY NEWS staff is seeking entries for their monthly essay contests. One winning entry may be chosen each month, and printed in the paper. The winning entrant will receive a $20.00 gift certificate from Hastings. Students of all ages are encouraged to participate. Themes for the 2003 are: March: April: May: June: July: August: September: October: November: What I Can Do to Make My Community a Better Place Why People Shouldn’t Litter The Summer Solstice What it Means to be Patriotic My Summer Vacation What I Learned this Summer The Most Interesting Person I Ever Met Why Money Can’t Buy Happiness My Idea of a Perfect Christmas First Annual Winter Blast Canceled— Mother Nature fails to cooperate Looks like Mother Nature isn’t going to cooperate in the next two weeks to bring the much-needed snow to pull off the First Annual Huntsville Winter Blast Snowmobile races. Officials from the Utah State Snowmobile Racing Association visited Red Rock Ranch, the designated site of the first annual event, yesterday and, unfortunately, determined that the only way to successfully make the event happen would be to truck in the needed snow. “Somehow, trucking snow into Red Rock Ranch in the middle of February just didn’t appear to be a viable option,“ stated Janice Yoak of Red Rock. Event planners felt it was best to cut their losses now, allowing ample time to notify the dozens of racers, sponsors, and spectators that were planning to attend and support the event. “We’re looking at the calendar and coordinating with the race association now to get the event scheduled for next year, and as an ongoing annual celebration of the Olympic anniversary,” added event planner Lisa Catanzaro. Red Rock Ranch and The Utah State Snowmobile Racing Association would like to thank everyone that planned to race, sponsor, or support the event, and anticipates that there will be an overwhelming support when the event is scheduled again for next year.
