Show Volume XII THE Issue I OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 5 April 15, 2005 FDR’s Presidency Celebrated at the Ogden Valley Branch On April 6, the Ogden Valley Branch Library held a special after school program honoring our 3and president—Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The event was held in conjunction with the History Channel’s television event FDR: A Presidency Revealed. Over forty children and parentsgathered at the library to learn about the life and times of FDR, and what he meant and did for the United Library County Library branches in commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of President Roosevelt’s death on April 12, 1945. The display will run through April 30, and everyone is encouraged to come to the Ogden Valley Branch Library and take a look! FDR: A Presidency Revealed premiers Sunday Eden and Ogden Canyon Photographers Win Awards —Photos on display at Eccles spent Art Center Through April 30, the Eccles Community Art Center’s Carriage House Gallery will be displaying winning photography from this year’s Ogden Color Camera Club’s Print Competition, Awards were announced at an opening reception on April 1. Jim Halay of Eden won a third place award for his art piece titled Green & Gold. Awards were presented for several categories. f the OPEN CATEGORY First: Devils Postpile, of North Ogden Great Depression and World War II. The program included a question and answer session about FDR, along with an interactive display of antiques from 1930-1945 including a phonograph, stereoview, movie projector, books, and great vintage toys. The children then had an opportunity to play with and examine all of the great antiques from the personal collection of Jason Rusch. The audience is transported backstage where the stage crew begins to strike the scenery of the show as the artists change into their everyday clothes. However, the passion and energy of this story still fills the stage. A member of the crew tries on the jacket that the artist playing Don José wore in the opera. A member of the orchestra crosses the stage on her way out. They bump into each other. A gesture, a phrase, a look, and slowly they start to identify themselves in each of the characters in each of the roles, as do the rest of the cast and crew. They have been captured by the spirit of the drama theyjust finished performing. t is by accident that Don José meets the enchanting gypsy girl, but he is seized instantly by her hypnotic charm. Overpowered by the mystique of Carmen, the soldier abandons his appointment and is led to a new life, one of crime and murder.
