Horna also recognized those who have worked through the process of a Pathways Master Plan for Ogden Valley from its inception five years ago to its recent adoption. Horna stated, “The early founders of Ogden Valley Pathways applied for a grant from the National Parks and Recreation department. Ed Radford was one of those early founders and he’s here today. We received this grant in 2003 and owe a huge debt of gratitude to the National Parks Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program. Kay Salazar from the Denver office was a key worker in this process. We will be forever grateful to the Weber County Commissioners who had the vision to write letters of support for the grant, and whose support was given in helping us get this trail on the ground. Those commissioners are Camille Cain and Ken Bischoff; and Glen Burton who is now retired; and our current county commissioner, Craig Dearden.” Cain was in attendance at the ceremony, and stated that the creation of the Pathway was a “perfect example of a community coming together.” Horna also thanked the pea oh in the Valley who have been committed to Pathways and stepped up sith ese contributions. Also, Staker-Parson’s Construction, who shared the vision of pathways and donated close to $25,000 towards its completion; Kelly Hipwell i the Weber Count Roads Department; Rex Harris with the Utah Department of Transportation; and Melissa Richardson who provided technical drawings. A special award was also presented— Pathways first ever Bulldog Award. The Bulldog Award was created to recognize a person who “sinks their teeth into a project and never lets go until it is finished.” The Bulldog Award was given to Dave Holmstrom. Sharon Holmstrom also spoke. She stated, “Our pathways are our connection to our community, nature, and, most importantly, to ourselves. We use our bodies and, as we do, we grow stronger. We slow our pace down and, as we do, we see our surrounding in a deeper and more ‘connected’ way. As we become more connected to the land, we have a stronger urge to protect this beautiful environment and what it means to our quality of life.” She then proceeded to share a variation of an ancient Gaelic blessing: Come visit us for: 334-9881 Ogden Valley Pathways Announces New Board Members For 2006 Ogden Valley Pathways is pleased to announce an outstandrd of Governors We have included phone numbers in hopes that if you wish to serve on a particular committee, you will give the appropriate board member a call and have them add you to their committee volunteer list.
