The defendant was arrested in California, a requisition having becu issued by (Joy. Woods. A great outcry was made at the time by the friends of the accused, and the action of Gov. "Woods and other officers in Utah was the subject of severe animadversion. As the case now stands, Haskins u accused of perjury ; having, it is alleged, sworn to the correctness of certain documents relating to the ownership of niiucs, knowing that hA documents had been wilfully altered in his interest' It is also alleged that Haskins procured the erasure and alteration of the Mountain Lake Miuing l)istrict,making''2 miles distant," or, as some say, "U miles," to read " mile distant" from a certain point, thus "floating" a claim in which Col. Wall is interested, down the hill to another point. Wall and Haskins arc the chief disputants and interested parties in this case, and some startling revelations concerning the acts of in Utah arc threatened by Geo. C. Hates, who is one of the principal witnesses. At the opening of the Court Judge MeKcan showed his stubborn persistence in a foolish and illegal course by appointing U. S. Deputy Marshal Tyson to serve subpoecuas in chancery. It will be remembered that rhe United States Supreme Court ruled, h the, Unglcbrecht case, that tho Territorial Marshal was the proper I ersou to serve processes in tho District Courts except when sitting as V. Toole has made some extensive improvements in the interior of his hotel the Globe, on Fifth Street, having refitted bis sleeping apartments, introduced the best spring mattrasses and arranged for the comfort and accommodation of all who choose to reside with him. Many a family living in the West has been debarred from visiting their friends on the Atlantic Coast on account of the high tariff. If the Company would go one step further, the benefits derived would redound to the mutual advantage of passengers and the Company that is, reduce the rates from the East to the West. The best paying roads in the United States charges only two and a half cents a mile, while they have greater obstacles to overcome than have the Union and Central Pacific roads, which charge seven and a half per cent, per mile. A party of young men from here have acted ia heroic manner in prosecuting the search. Yesterday, as Israel Hunsucker, Lorenzo Wright, and Isaao and Dan. Smith were boating about a mile from the mouth of the river, in Salt Lake, they left the boat to examine some shallow places in tbe lake, and soon discovered two ob jects. Aprroaching the first they found it to be the body of an animal, and ad vanced with but little hope toward the next, a little farther off. They soon learned that it was the object of their search. It was about 11 a.m. The body, though fearfully disfigured, swollen and so that it could hardly be held together, was conveyed by them in their boat to the shore where they put it in a blanket and managed to convey it in a wagon to Brigham City, where, soon after thtir arrival, crowds of people gathered around to see the corpse.
