Show oo CHINA'S URGENT mmjw a WASHINGTON, Fob. 1 An urgent appeal for aid to relieve famine conditions con-ditions in China has been received by the American National Rod Cross Society from Chairman Forguson of the Shanghai relief society. Mr. Ferguson cables: "Consul Gray reports pitiable conditions con-ditions in Naplng and other refuge centers. Fifty thousand to ono hundred hund-red thousand famine refugees in hovefs on swampy lands nro practically practic-ally foodless, clothmglcss and sleeping sleep-ing in mud and water. Epidemic Is feared. Consul and Strong- American relief committee require -special Rod Cross appropriations.' Tho society says It will forward contributions sent to it at Washington. |
