Show oo UluuUuulUn UF LIGHT ORNIHANCE A special mooting of the city council coun-cil was hold last night for the purpoBo of discussing tho provisions of an ordinance or-dinance which, If passed, will grant a company of Ogden men a franchise to build nnd operate an electric plant and systems in this city. No decislvo action was taken last evening, but tho ordinance will probably go to its final fin-al reading at the regular meeting of the board next Monday night In addition to tho members of tho council board the meeting was attended attend-ed by M. S. Browninc; and several of his asscolate promoters, Valentino Gideon, a special attorney representing represent-ing the petitioners for tho franchise, and. T. D. Johnson, also representing the petitioners. The ordinance was thoroughly discussed, dis-cussed, each section being taken up separately. Among the suggestions discussed was one providing that the company, at the explratlou of ten years, sell its plant and system to tho "citv, the purchrtso price to bo fixed by" a board of three disinterested persons per-sons or by condemnation. The city will receive twenty-five-street arc lights free until 191S, in lieu of no occupation tax and after that time, If the company bo still In possession of tho plant, the occupation occupa-tion tax Is to be lovied. It was also decided that the city should receive one hundred horsepower for uses other oth-er than lighting the streets at a cost of one cent per kilowatt. Other concessions were made and. while all woro acceptable to the council, coun-cil, no declolvo action was taken. It is quito probable that tho ordinance will either be adopted or rejected at tho regular meeting Monday night. |
