Show THEATERS 1 AT THE ORPHEUM. The Orpheum theatre was opened Inst night for the 1914-15 season by DeWolf Hopper and the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera company While the crowd was not large It was very enthusiastic en-thusiastic and the reception gien Mr. Hopper and his fellow players was equal to any that has been accorded to a musical company in many months. Mr. Hopper has been one of the popular idols of theatregoers for many years and his work last night showed that he is still able to hold his own. As Ko-Ko. the Lord High Executioner, Execution-er, his singing and acting cauayd continuous con-tinuous enjoyment Herbert Wal-rous. Wal-rous. as Pooh-Bah, displayed a splendid splen-did bass voice and gave a finely finished fin-ished delineation of the role As the Mikado Arthur Sullivan was excellently cast and his contribution to the comedy portion of the play was thoroughly appreciated, as was also his vocal work. Gladys Caldwell, was a charming and graceful Yum-Yum. possessing a voice fully equal to the demands made upon it and a finished manner af acting. Paul Hyde Davles was a rare treat. The singing of Jayue Herbert as Katlsha was also well received. re-ceived. The young ladles of the chorus were all pretty and fitted well into :he ensemble scenes. As a whole, the production was a romplimcnt to the Manager. William A Brady, and the Ogden theatregoers appreciated the opportunity ol" seeing it. |
