Show RANKING TENNIS PLAYERS MEET Newport. R. I., Sept 1 The two ranking lawn tennis players of the country met on the Casino courts today to-day for the second consecutive year in the contest for the national championship. cham-pionship. Last year Maurice E Mclaughlin Mc-laughlin of San Francisco, the champion, cham-pion, defeated R Norrls Williams li of Philadelphia, three sets to one. McLoughlin was the fasorite today, when a victory would give him permanent perma-nent possession of the silver bowl offered by the National association, four years ago. Each player has gone through this years tournament with the loss 01 but one set out of 16 played. Wll Mams has won 98 games and lost ft'.i, McLoughlin has won 95 and lost 42. Last year McLoughlin did not lose a set until the finals, while Williams Wil-liams won 1R :md lost 5.
