Show UNION MEN PAY HONOR TO FIRST PRESIDENT Salt Lake, April 1. Resolutions of respect to Robert G. Slcater. first president of the Salt Lake Federation of Labor, and known as the "Father of Unionism." in Utah, who died last week, wore adopted yesterday by the local federation. They are as follows: Whereas, Death has romoved from our midst that sterling citizen and pioneer union man, Robert G. Sleatcr, who spent many years of his life in instituting and building up the labor unions of Salt Lake City and the slate of Utah, being for many years the president of Salt Lake Federation of Labor: and "Whereas. Mr. Sleater was ever deeply Interested In the welfare or the working people, giving unstlnt-ingly unstlnt-ingly of his time, money and effort to ameliorate the conditions of labor and to make the homes of the men and women who work happier and brighter; and "Whereas, Much of the progress labor la-bor has made and the prosperity and improved conditions now enjoyed by I the working people of Salt Lake City and the State of Utah are duo directly direct-ly to his untiring effort; therefore, be it ' Resolved, by Salt Lake Federation of Iabor in regular meeting assembled that we mourn with the family the departure of Mr. Slcater from this life and that wo hereby express the high regard in which he Is held by all and record our lasting appreciation apprecia-tion of his sterling efforts in our behalf. be-half. That the charter of this federation be draped for a period of thirty days; that a copy of these resolutions be transmitted to the family of .Mr. Slcater; that a copy be spread upon the minutes of this federation; and that a copy be given to the daily press. oo |
