Show Thursday, May 10, 1979 Page 13 Sloan Heads Dr. John J. Herbst, Director Direc-tor of the Salt Lake City Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at the University of Utah Medical Center, announced today that John Sloan has been selected as the 1979 Breath of Life Campaign Chairperson Chairper-son for Cystic Fibrosis in Park City. The date for the May Bike-A-Thon will be announced an-nounced in the near future. The Bike-A-Thon will include, in-clude, contact to help educate every parent, grandparent, grand-parent, and prospective parent about the symptoms of cystic fibrosis and similar lung-damaging diseases, at the same time providing an opportunity to support the work of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It is not commonly known that about one in twenty persons carries the genetic trait for cystic fibrosis. This Would mean that there could be approximately 10 million carriers in the nation. Dr. Herbst underscored his remarks by explaining, "Little more than a decade ago, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was working to keep children with CF alive long enough to start school. Now, we're trying to help some of these same patients, who have grown to young adulthood, enter college and find jobs." "Longevity has increased year by year," Herbst continued, con-tinued, "and we have hope that scientists will find a control or cure for cystic fibrosis. A major purpose of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Foun-dation is to conquer this tragic inherited disease which occurs once in every 1,600 live births in the United States." May 10. at 7:30 pm. at the high school. The Spring Music Festival will feature all three school bands (Marsac, Winters Middle, and Park High) with solo performances by Susan Mann, Brent Kimball and David Sargeant, all of whom received superior ratings at least week's regional band meet. Bill Tatomer, who was rated ex cellent at the regional band meet, also will perform solo. The festival will open with the Marsac-Middle school band and they will be followed by a piano solo by Brent Kimball. Following selections by the middle school band Susan Mann will perform a piano solo. David Sargeant will give a vocal solo after performances by the Park High chorus and Bill Tatomer's tuba solo will precede the concluding per formances of the Park High Band. ??TV Problems??
