Show Wednesday, April 19, 1978 Page 5 Sign Hit By Commission A sign tor the rm-ntly opened Japanese Peasant restaurant, located at the corner of Heber Avenue and Main Street, came under tire at the Planning Commission's Com-mission's Wednesday night work session. Commission chairman Burnis Watts objected to the "white background, lettering let-tering and presentation" and said , the restaurant operators "'should be informed infor-med there are some questions" concerning the sign, which features a drawing of a Japanese peasant. Watts said the sign does not comply with the city's sign ordinance regarding color and added. "It does deviate from the purpose of the historic area It ought to be more in line with what we have on Mam Street ' City Planner Dave Preeee said the sign does conform to size regulation- but noted that he mtormed the Japanese Peasant management that the sign would have to be approved by the Planning Corn mission. The commission will study the legality of the sign at its April 20 decision making session. The restaurant location. f28 Mam Street, has been the site of three restaurants m the past year the Gypsv -Arm, Ma Kettles and the Japanese Peasant. This prompted Watts to com ment. A3 ' ' i i ' X i R Joint Meeting To eview Boundaries A joint meeting of the Park City and South Summit school boards will be held Wednesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Park City High School media center. Topics for the meeting will include the review of a boundary survey administered adminis-tered to Park City parents with children residing in the South Summit district but attending Park City schools. The January poll of 179 residents 80 to 85 percent of those involved revealed that 119 (66 per cent) were in favor of a boundary line change: 3R (21 percent) were opposed to a line change and 22 (12 percent) held no opinion on the matter. : The survey read: "A change in the boundaries bound-aries would enable you to vote in the Park City School ' District where your children attend school. This change would increase the assessed valuation of the Park City School district and decrease the assessed valuation of the South Summit School District... Dis-trict... Such a move as recommending reco-mmending a boundary change to the Utah State Legislature might be a factor leading to reorganization reorganiza-tion of all school districts in the county into a single district." South Summit will present the impact the proposed boundary change would have on their district at the April 19 meeting. In addition, the districts will discuss recent billings. South Summit has of yet failed to pay its 1976-77 $125 per student debt to the Park City district for the Park City students living within their district. ain St. Refurnishing Continued From pany would use the facility for only two to four years. Valuables Taken From Auto Valuables belonging to Kamas resident Have Prescott were taken from an automobile parked outside the Edelweiss lodge on April 13. Western Woodlands Announces Mini Mall Western Woodlands has revealed plans to construct a 15,000-square-foot Victorian-style Victorian-style mini mall in Prospector Square this June. The mall will be located on Gold Dust Lane, next to the Grub Steak Restaurant and across the street from the Park City Learning and Cultural Center, said agent Mike Sloan. The two-story building will have interior brick tile walkways and open a;i' bairnine- on the second floor, ending in Victorian-style cupolas. Sloan said the architecture and color of the building will be compatible with already existing buildings. "We have in mind small shops that will service people staying at the learning learn-ing center, as well as residents of Park Meadows and Prospector Square," Sloan commented. "We are suggesting to people who currently own commercial lots in Prospector Square or have plans to buy, that they don't build now. Instead, lease 300 square feet from us in the mall until they get off the ground and need 3,000." Sloan said construction should begin within the next 45 to 60 days with completion predicted for October 15. As of yet, no lease agreements have been signed for space in the mall, although Sloan said he has been approached by several people, including a restaurateur. Elwell Trial Set For June A June 26-30 trial date has been set in the John Elwell case. Presiding at the trial, to be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Coalville Courthouse.'wiil be Judge Stewart Hanson, Jr. :i The former' Marsac principal prin-cipal was fired by a June 3, 1977 school board vote on the grounds of insubordination. Elwell's lawyer Kathryn Collard claims the ad ministrator was dismissed on "vague" charges and denied due process. She also contends Elwell was not discharged in accordance with, the f, Utah Orderly ' Dismissal Procedures Act.' '"' Attorney Oscar McConkie wjll represent the Park City School Board. Elwell is expected to sue the district for $40,000-70.000. ft I I The 58 acres of commercial property that make up Prospector Square were subdivided sub-divided and sold by Western Woodlands for Murray First Thrift three years ago. A year ago We-ieni Woodlands Wood-lands banded together 20 people with previous interests inter-ests in Prospector Square lots, bought the property now occupied by the Grub Steak Restaurant, completely financed its construction, and purchased the land now to be used for the mini malL Recently, Western Woodlands Wood-lands negotiated the purchase purch-ase of 22 more lots in Prospector Square. To make those lots more marketable, Western Woodlands specified speci-fied that Murray First Thrift complete a proposed walking street mall and all parking lots with curbs and gutters. "Builders then wouldn't have to go through the mud," Sloan said. He continued that the walking walk-ing street mall would be lit and would have cement planter boxes and redwood benches. "We of course have to go through city planning before we begin on the mini mall," Sloan said.
