WEEKLY NEWS ITEMS FROM LEVAN TURTLE NEAR Funeral of Alex Jennings Held Sunday Afternoon Pioneer Resident of Town New Heating Apparatus Mr. and Mrs. R. J. HuntingInstalled In Picture Show. ton Severly Injured When Their. Car. Turns .Over . Brought To This City In Funeral services were held Sunday STARR Gov. Mabey's Car. While driving home Monday morning Mr. and Mrs. It. 'J. Huntington of Tooele, Utah, who had been spending Thanksgiving Holidays with Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Judd in this city met with an accident near Starr when their car turned turtle throwing them to the ground and severely injuring them. A tew minutes after the accident occurred Gov. Mabey and party who were on their way to Los Angeles came along and picked up the injured and brought them back to Nephi. Medical aid was secured and it was found that Mr. Huntington had one leg broken in three places and other wise severly bruised. JUrs. Huntington had a severe bruise on her head, right hand cut and the muscles of her left arm broken which required eleven stitches. On account of the nature of their injuries it was deemed best to take them at once to the hospital an Salt Lake which was done the same day. They are both doing as well as could be expected and Mrs. Huntington expects to be able to leave the hospital in about a week, but it will be at least six weeks before Mr. Huntington will be able to leave. The accident is said to have been caused through a defective steering gear the car having been used a number of years. Much sympathy is felt among the people here for Mr. ana Mrs Huntington and hopes are freely expressed for their early recovery, the couple having many sincere friends in this city who were shocked when they heard of the accident that had hap pened to them. -- FUMBLES OF 1923" VENICE DECEMBER 12 You will remember iu the early "Oh Gracious Me" was spring poduced in this city by Mr. Hillam witn tnmy local stars and was a great success, although the short time he had to put the show in thape was undoubtedly the scream, of the Mr. Hillam is here again rehears ing a six act vaudeville show which he will have more time to put it ove r. Mr. Jennings was born in Sacramento, Calif. 68 years ago, and came to Levan when 8 years of age being one of the pioneers of the town. For many years past he followed the occuptaion of mining and real estate business also promot ing enterprises, aiding greatly in getting the plaster industry started n Levan also in Sigurd. He was the father of 10 children 7 of whom sur vive him. Morris, of Salt Lake City, was the speaker. His talk was one of the best ever delivered in the local schools and was well rece ived by students and teachers. Mr. Morris declared that now is the time for the young people to get an edu cation and not wait till they are old, illustrating his point by saying the e tress could be sprayed weeks in the year and the pests would not be killed but if spraying was done one week at the right time the insects would be destroyed. He told of the efforts made by scientific men who fight disease and prolong human life. According to Mr. Morris the a- - Mrs. Madeline Pyper Bigler, wife of Mark Bigler, passed away at her home early yesterday morning folMrs. lowing several weeks illness. Bigler suffered an attack of the "Flu" two years ago and also another attack one year ago, . since which time she never regained her normal fifty-on- health. The deceased has been a life long resident of Nephi having been born in this city Aphil 2nd, 1861 and was 'therefore 62 years of age at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late John and Madeline Pyper pioneer residents here. CONTRACT AWARDED PAYSON - JUAB COUNTY LINE The contract for the eight miles of concrete road between Payson and the Juab County line was awarded last Saturday by the State Road Commission to The Wasatch Grading Company of Provo. The bid of this company was under the estimate engineers to the extent ot about $26,000. The awarding of this contract will be good news to the peo pie of East Juab County as thus stretch ot nigh way has been a matter of much unfavorable comment the past season on account of the bad condition of the road. The Wasatch Grading Company is the same firm who have tn present contract for paving through this city.
