On Aug. 12, the company said, the first half consolidated earnings for 1977 came to $19,303,000 compared to $16,386,000 for the same period the year before. After preferred dividend requirements, the current first half earnings for common stockholders came to $18,973,000 versus year ago net profit to common shareholders of $16,049,000. On Aug. 9 the Board of Directors of Mountain Fuel Supply declared a quarterly cash dividend of 50 cents for common stock. It also declared a $2 quarterly cash dividend on the companys preferred stock. The payout for both issues is unchanged from the last quarter. The common stock dividend is payable on Sept. 12 to shareholders of record on Aug. 19. The preferred dividend is payable on Oct. 3 to shareholders of record on Sept. 2. Mountain Fuel said the first half earnings increase was due to improved revenues from natural gas operations. The volume of natural gas sold during the first six months of 1977 increased seven percent over the same period in 1976.
