Show Spring scout camporee draws record attendance MAYFIEL- D- A record number of 218 scouts and leaders attended the Sanpete District the competition were. Troop 505, first place; Troop 564 A, second Spring Camporee held recently in Mayfield Canyon April 16 and 17. Troops from all over Sanpete county participated in the event. Camp was set up on Friday and a campfire program was held. Following the flag ceremony and instructions on Saturday initiative activities morning, began wherein every scout and leader participated. The activities proved to be positive, fun and a learning experiences for everyone. Winners of place; Troop 641 A, third place; Troop 528, fourth place and Troop 641 B, fifth place. Camp inspection awards went to Troop 552, first place; Troop 528, second place; and Troop 524, third place. Special recognition were given to Lynn and Pat Olson, Tom Lusk, Jene Beal, Gary and Gayle Jensen and the Timberline staff of Marcus Lusk, Bowen Masco, Matt Kehn and Kyle Hansen, all of whom made the camporee completely successful. Spring City to host 18th annual heritage home tour SPRING CIT- Y- Utahs best example of historic architecture will be on tour Saturday, May-29- , in Spring City. Breakfast will be served by local volunteers of the Fire Department, 150 East Center, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The home tour begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Ticket sales will begin at 9 a.m. at the old Fire House on Main Street. The tour usually takes most of the day if people wish to see all the homes, but if participants can spend only a few hours, and see half the homes, time will be well spent. A bake sale, sponsored by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., in the old City Hall on Main Street and a dinner will be served at the bowery near the old school at Center Street and 100 East. Spring City is located at the foot of the Manti La Sal mountains in Sanpete County, a two-hodrive down Highway 89 from Salt Lake City. Because of the concentration ur of historic homes, bams, log cabins and out buildings belonging to the English and Scandinavian pioneers. Spring City has been designated as a National Register Historic District. The Heritage Day Home Tour is in its 18th year this spring. It is organized by Friends of Historic Spring City, who are interested in helping to preserve the historic character of the town. Funds generated by the group help with projects such as the restoration of the old Fire House on Main Street and the restoration of the old Spring City Elementary School. TVve are 15 buildinf on the tour this year, inducing the stately LDS meeting house built of local oolite limestone. Torch run passes through Sanpete PROVO The Special Olympics annual torch run will be passing through Sanpete County on Tuesday, May 18, beginning at the north end of Fountain Green at 10 a.m. and passing through Moroni at 10:45 a.m., Mt. Pleasant at 11:30 a.m., Ephraim at 12:15 p.m., Manti at 1 p.m. and Gunnison at 1:45 p.m. Sponsors, and anyone who would like to help may contact Brent Wade or Larry Nordell at 0. PLEASAN- T- Two LDS Seminary graduation exercises are being scheduled by the Mt. Pleasant LDS Seminary. Gradation from Mt. Pleasant and Mt. Pleasant North LDS Stakes will be Sunday, May 15 at 6 p.m., in the Moroni LDS Stake Center. Ceremonies for Mt. Pleasant and Mt. Pleasant North Stakes will be held at 8:30 p.m., in the Mt. Pleasant LDS Stake Center on the same evening. The split in graduations is designed to give more students the chance to participate and to give entire families the opportunity to attend, according to a seminary press release. In the Moroni LDS Stake, President Warren L. Benincosa will preside. President Tim Blackham will conduct with Seminary council member Marl-yc- e the Rawlings introducing graduation theme. Reed C. PLEASAN- T- World famous poet and philosopher, Gary Snyder, will appear for a special reading of poetry Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m., in the Wasatch Academy Auditorium. Snyder teaches literature and wilderness thought at the University of California at Davis. He has published 16 books of poetry and prose. "Turtle Island" received a Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1975. His other poetry collections include "Mountain and Rivers", "Without End", "Axe Handles" and "Left Out In The Rain. PLEASAN- T- The annual Central Utah High School Art Show was recently held and included entries from Manti High School, Wasatch Academy, North Sanpete High School and Gunnison Valley High School. Central Utah High School Art winners for two dimensional work are Natalie Anderson, first Sanpete High place. North School; Winners from Wasatch Academy were Scott Spencer, second place; Yana Walton, third place; Rachel Cox, honorable mention; and Phil Atwood, honorable mention. Katie Carpenter received special recognition for her fashion design. Winners in the three dimensional category, from Wasatch Academy are Mike Duncan, first Austin Smith, second place; place; Katie Bateman, third place, Amanda Mclver and Ji Wun Oh, both honorable mentions.
