At present the limit of the state tax is 8 mills, and no part of this can be appropriated to the use of high schools. Thus it will be seen that the state provides support for the grade schools and for the college branches, leaving a gap of four years for which no provision is made. Is this right? Why appropriate thousands of dollars annually for university work, when the means by which a graduate of the grades may reach the university is lacking? Davis county has had three struggling high schools and still has two. They are run without funds. They need assistance Why not divert a portion of the state funds (it is prof mill be thus posed that appropriated) to the aid of such high schools? If the amendment carries there will be no increase in the state tax levy. As stated above, 8 mills is the limit. The amendment simply makes possible the diverting of $ mill of the funds, as at present secured, to the use of the high schools. If this amendment is passed the difficulty we are now encountering in our Davis county high schools will be settled. Respectfully. L. J. Muir. one-hal- WOODS CROSS. The East Bountiful choir and E. D.
