Health and nutrition experts agree Americans eat too much fat In fact the average American consumes more than 40 percent of his daily calories in the form of fats or oils This is not only bad for the waistline high fat diets have been linked to increased risks for heart disease and certain forms of cancer Isn’t it time you made your lifestyle a “litestyle”? According to Linda Webb R D a nutritionist with the Lite people who bring you you can have a significan impact on both your health and your weight by food choose the of you changing types each day Basically a “litestyle” means choosin fat and low foods are that more ing high in fiber less foods high in fat and calories This means building your daily diet around fruits and vegetables cereals and whole grains lean meats fish poultry lowfat dairy products and products too Here are some tips from Ms Webb that can help you to choose lean cuts of meat and trim all visible fat before cooking Remove skin from poultry before bake or broil meat and Roast cooking poultry Use a rack so excess fat drains off meat Use a nonstick pan so adding fat is unnecessary lowfat dairy products like skim milk lowfat cheeses and lowfat yogurt Substitute plain lowfat yogurt in recipes calling for sour cream and try buttermilk (actually low in fat and calories despite its name) in recipes calling for cream boil or bake vegetables and season with herbs rather than butter or rich sauces Rediscover just how good vegetables can taste by cooking briefuntil vegetables are crisp tender ly then serve with a lowfat Lite dressing like Dressings which can add great taste to your salads and vegetables without adding fat to your diet -- Learn to read nutrition labels on products you buy Products contain the most amount of the first items in the ingredient list soups stews or gravy until fat becomes solid Spoon off the fat reheat and serve -- When eating out you cannot control how your food is prepared so control the foods you choose Select foods that are lower fat choices like fish or lean meats and ask for all sauces gravies and dressings on the side you control the amount you eat -- Finally remember that the key word is balance Low fat does not mean no fat You can still enjoy some favorite high fat foods occasionally but aim for an overall lowering of the total fat in your diet WE CARE FOR SENIORS DAY THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 17 1987 AT THE DELTA AND FILLMORE COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTERS Educational classes on the following subjects: MEDICARE COVERAGE PART A and B MEDIGAP COVERAGE ADMISSIONS and BILLING DIAGNOSTIC RELATED GROUPS (DRG’s) Your class ring should be as special as you are And it can be with Balfour because you design it -- to create a class ring that is yours alone Your class ring from Balfour No other can express who you are so exactly Or capture your mem ories so clearly 1:30 pm & 7 pm COME EVERYONE IS 0U 44 N Main e alfour Fillmore Xo 0'ie remembers OUT Ill INVITED TO ATTEND For more Information 1 call 864-559- The Republican Party Officers would like to encourage everyone to come and make their preferences known Stevens Two Sessions Available FILLMORE has it Fillmore Precincts One and Two are combining for this meeting It will be held at the Millard County Court House upstairs on September 17 at 7:30 Marjorie and 50th Wedding or in so mans crays 743-559- 1 |
