Show sMssswmwWMtniiiiii fij'rrrr Delta North Elementary In The News Millard rr Jan Thurv I SPS ( County 15 1987 - Page 7 -- i Delta Middle School f t ISSWWWIWMWtWfM Students urged to sharpen skills for ACT Test The ACT test is coming up again on Feb 7 at Delta High Anyone wanting to take the test should fill out an apform from Mr Foster’s plication office the counseling Although deadline has passed and applications will require a late fee the late deadline will be January 27 There is a possibility the test will be given again in April however in order to insure that test results reach colleges and universities in time for scholarship students should plan to applications take this test An ACT prep class will start on Jan 19 at 7:30 AM This class will help prepare students to perform well on the ACT test Delta North Salutes Delta High Pat Schena Del-ettThe football season is over but the are still busy serving Delta High The posters seen in the school and hallways are made by the last Saturday they helped all day at the Delta eight school wrestling tournament They were runners worked at the mats sold drawing tickets and helped in the concession stand The have spent two Saturdays selling hot dogs and making sandwiches for Dove's Market The money which they earned there is going towards helping them go to the state wrestling finals in Richfield This is an important organization for Delta High Even though the aren’t given much recognition for all their work the girls are much appreciated Juniors hear counseling for next year Juniors are mysteriously being handed notes What are they for? They are appointments to meet with Mr Foster for junior evaluations Mr During the week of Jan Foster will talk to all the juniors about their courses for next year and their post high school plans He also looks at some interest evaluations hoping to guide the students to the appropriate classes and career opportunities a junior who has Kelly Anderson already met with Mr Foster said “He told me the ACT test was a key to geta ting scholarship” Musical cast looks toward March date "South Pacific” has been chosen as the musical to be performed by Delta High students this year The story takes place in Hawaii during World War II and centers around Nellie Forbush and Emile deBecque Nellie who will be played by Gloria Roper and Kodi Roholt is a nurse in a navy hospital Emile who will be portrayed by Jim Larsen and David Bird is a rich French plantation owner A conflict in their relationship occurs when Nellie learns that Emile was once married to a Polynesia woman Honor students announced Another aspect of the play revolves around Lt Joe Cable and Liat a native Lt Cable girl played by Mark Petersen is brought to the island of Bali Hai by Bloody Mary played by Shereen Abdelaal and Cindy Bunker where he meets her daughter Liat played by Jennifer Smith The music in the performance has classical broadway selections such as “Some Enchanted Evening” “Happy Talk" and “Nothin’ Like a Dame" Delta High’s production is scheduled for March Keepjrouivwprkiiig GEUMDM Students on the fall quarter honor roll at Utah State University have been announced by Dr Val R Christensen Vice President for Student Services A student must carry 15 or more credit hours and earn a 35 or better grade point average to achieve honor roll Two Delta students named to the honor roll are Philip C Morrison Business and Keith C Johnson Engineering are Jennifer students Fillmore Family Life and Leeinda Speakman Arts and Lynn Fuller Humanities Social Sciences Brian M Stephenson and Charles M Tracy Agriculture of Holden were also named American Heart Association WE'RE FIGHTING YOUR LIFE FOR Delta North is happy to welcome Patricia Schena aboard our teaching staff Mrs Schena is assuming the vacancy created by Mrs Treva Carlson in the third grade Mrs Carlson recently gave birth to a handsome young boy and resigned her contract at that time We are delighted to have Mrs Schena working at Delta North She is an extremely capable individual and we are positive she will do an excellent job in the third grade Mrs Schena was born in Fillmore Utah She grew up in Scipio but has also lived in Cedar City West Valley and Delta She has one brother and three sisters She attended Fillmore and graduated from Elementary Millard High School She received her teaching degree from Southern Utah State College She is married to Jeff Schena Utah The originally from Abraham couple met at Brianhead during a high school leadership conference They were wed this past summer Mrs Schena has kept busy during her lifetime She has worked at Scipio Sportswear and at Rockie’s Apparel as a sewing machine operator She has also taught school For the past three years she taught first grade at Robert Frost Elementary in the Salt Lake area In her spare time Mrs Schena enjoys horseback riding tole painting collecting buttons with sayings on them cross stitch and dancing From her elementary years Mrs Schena remembers that she was on the Snowmobile emergency kit Whether you plan a short snowmobile ride or an extended trip you should always take along items for an emergency says Paul Edmunds Utah State University Extension safety specialist Basic emergency items include an extra drive belt extra spark plugs and tools needed to make minor repairs and adjustments JCyoii’re going jo a remote area where supplies are not readily available however you’ll need adequate supplies and repair items to meet any emergency Edmunds suggests you take along such things as extra fuel adequate eating and cooking utensils matches in a waterproof container candles food that’s easy to pack and that won’t spoil from freezing and emergency rations such as dried food Also consider extra clothing a tent sleeping bag and blanket hand axe kit compass hunting knife flares a large red signal cloth snowshoes and maps of the area where you'll be riding Rather than overload yom Edmunds snowmobile pack says equipped with equipment on a a rigid tow bar “Never ride alone or in unfamiliar terrain” he says “Use the buddy system so you can get help or help each or other in case of breakdown accident” and JEREMY MECHAM Allen Lawson pound out Neil Hansen supervises game while teacher Free enterprise projects winning baseball team in the sixth grade The class had a black bat that would always hit homeruns!! Mrs Schena has enjoyed her lime at Della North thus far She worked at the school about two days a week prior to her fulltime teaching assignment as a substitute teacher During that time she become quite well aquainted with us She especially enjoys the positive titude of the faculty and staff members But above all she enjoys classrooms with four walls and doors!!! We hope Mrs Schena will find much happiness and success in her newest teaching endeavor We would like to see her become a permanent fixture at our school!!
