ATVs pose big risks Towing sledders behind vehicles or snowmobiles is becoming a common scene at sites The key to safe sled towing is to watch your speed says Paul Edmunds Utah State University Extension safety specialist “The faster you go the more you compound the risk of injury” Edmunds says “A sledder who falls off traveling at 5 miles an hour is much less likely to be injured than one moving at 30 miles per hour” Edmunds says snowmobile or ATV operators using slow speeds have more time to respond to bumpy snow conditions or avoid other machines or people Towing in an area popular with sledders requires extra care he says A sledder on a saucer may not have the directional control to avoid you And on steep slopes the momentum of a saucer may carry it into you Edmunds recommends
