MHS Girls basketball team plays Emery The lady Eagles were the guests of the Emery Spartans last week The MHS girls worked hard but unfortunately were not successful in overThe Eagles coming their opponents lost with a score of We’re proud of them for their effort however and wish them luck the rest of the season Swimming pool news The holidays are behind us and the West Millard Community Swimming Pool is back on its normal winter schedule Swimming lessons Aqua Aerobics and the swim team are going again The pool management wants to remind everyone that two changes in the pools winter sched ale have been made Ladies Hour on Thursday recently nights has been discontinued at the present time which means the pool will now stay open for everyone for open swimming until 9:00 pm The Lunch Time Swim from 12 noon to 3:00 pm has been discontinued on Tuesday through Fridays which allows the schools to come to the pool for swimming lessons Monday the pool will still be open from 12 noon to 3:00 pm for the Lunch Time Swim Barkdull The ice was from four to six inches thick and the trout had to be pulled through a seven inch hole Just a half hour of fishing was all it took before he felt the tug on the line The opinion of the men with him was that it is probably the largest trout ever caught during any ice fishing season Millard ranked 3rd in the state By George Russell The Millard Eagles ranked 3rd and 4th by the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News traveled to Nephi Thursday and defeated a stubborn Juab Wasp basketball club The Eagles fresh from a resounding loss to the number one team and last the Richfield year’s State Champion Wildcats rebounded with a victory after a shakey first half Early foul trouble cost the Eagles any advantage they might have had over the winless and Kelby Wasps Kyle Wilson Swallow each picked up two fouls in the first quarter Wilson lead the early scoring as he pumped in 6 points in the first period Millard had a 14 to 10 advantage as the period ended Swallow and Wilson picked up their 3rd foul early in the 2nd quarter and spent the remainder of the half on the bench Timely shooting kept Millard ahead of a young inspired Juab club The Eagles lead at 26 to 25 The third quarter started slow as the Eagles got untracked They started to pass the ball! Jason McGinn hit the Eagle’s first bucket He then fed the ball to Cory Gillins for two points The Wasps grabbed a point lead only to see the Eagles regain the lead within twenty seconds Shawn Rushton hit Kelby Swallow with a bounce pass on the inside and he scored McGinn hit Jim White and he scored two as the Eagles built their lead White returned the assist and hit McGinn and he hit two more points McGinn passed to Rushton inside and the “Express” scored Jim White stole a pass drove down the court scored and was fouled He made the for a quarter ending three point play and a Millard lead 43 to 34 In the 4th quarter Juab made a couple of runs at the Eagles The Wasps cut the Eagle’s lead to A timely settled the young birds down Rushton grabbed a key offensive rebound and put it in for two points Wilson took a pass from Gillins and scored But the Wasps just wouldn’t play dead they cut Millard’s lead to then drove down McGinn through the “paint” for a bucket Wilson hit two field goals in a row White made a timely then Wilson hit another goal The Eagles won 56 to 47 The Good News!! The Blizzard is starting to ice up again! The “Skin” is starting to heal! The“Man” is back to long pants and growing peach fuzz! Jim White’s 10 points Jason McGinn’s 12 points and Kyle Wilson’s 14 points got the Eagles back on track! Along with the “Express” Shawn Rushton’s excellent board play and points the Eagles won their seventh game of the season Millard's record is now Next week the Eagles are on the road for two contests Friday night they play South Sevier Saturday the play the number 2 rated team in the State in basketball the Emery Spartens Delta basketball winners the axe George Russell The Millard Eagles using i balanced scoring attack hung on to defeat the Delta Rabbits in Fillmore Saturday Millard’s big three night for 50 points in the Eagle’s victory They almost all look alike! They same size! They all play the almost are the same positions! They can handle the ball they can drive they can score! But most of all they can see the open man and pass! Kyle Wilson and Jim White each scored 17 points and Jason McGinn pumped in 16 in the Eagle’s victory Using these three along with Shawn Rushton and Kelby Swallow Coach David Rose has a unit that is starting to play together In the first quarter Wilson had the hot hand early as he scored the Eagle’s Great assists by first seven points White and Rushton helped Wilson Jerad Smith of Delta scored the Rabbit’s first 6 points and ended up the game with 20 points At the end of the quarter Millard was ahead In the second period McGinn and Swallow picked up where Wilson left off Swallow (playing like a Hawk) would get the ball inside get covered and feed the ball outside to McGinn McGinn pumped in two buckets on assists from Swallow and one offensive Swallow pumped in two ofrebound fensive boards and an assist from The Eagles extended their McGinn lead to The second half started with the “unit" Wilson White McGinn Swallow and Rushton for the Eagles Again ball movement was the key! Key passing kept the pressure on the Rabbits White pumped in 8 points McGinn added 6 and Wilson added 4 The “big three” scored 18 points as the Eagle’s built a 15 point lead Then the strangest thing happened! Only six points in the Millard game and a measly two points in the Emery game separated Delta from a victory this past weekend Where do the points have to come from for Delta to win?
