and Jennifer Schutz Stephanie Stevens The National Guard came to the rescue of the Fillmore Elementary third grade on Tuesday Feb 19 Armed with their truck Bart Whatcott and Dennis Stevens of the Utah National Guard picked up the third grade's last load of newspapers and aluminum cans for transport to a Salt Lake recycling center The third had been graders collecting the cans and newspapers for nearly a year in an effort to raise to buy a new enough money Almost $1000 had been computer raised before the pick up of the final load The third teachers grade predicted that the funds from the last of the newspapers and cans would be just enough to reach their goal An Apple lie computer along with a disk drive and a color monitor have already been ordered for the Fillmore Elementary third grade After all of the hard work and effort put into the project third graders are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new computer Most of the money for the computer was raised through the third and graders’ newspaper A substanaluminum can gathering tial amount however was received in cash donations from contributors who heard of the students' efforts Red Dome Inc and the Alternatives to Prison (ATP) program both made major contributions to the project A group of children in Las Vegas collected aluminum cans and donated the proceeds to the 3rd And several anonygrade project mous donations of up to $50 were made to the third graders Third raised even graders money by collecting and saving unclaimed lost coins mini) 4-- H members in Millard County are joining the 70000 throughout the state in observing State week March Using the theme Building On members are Experience" challenged to use their own as well as others’ periences and expertise in acquiring practical skills They also are learning good health habits developing respect for themselves and others exploring career and leisure time opportunities sharing responsibilities for preserving the environment and developing leadership and citizenship skills During this special week members the state will be taking throughout items they have baked to share with other members of the community This traditional Bake and Take week will be observed by many of our Millard County In Millard County there are approximately 275 volunteer leaders working with hundreds of members These volunteers ate among the more than 8000
