Show 1 Plans Are Being Readied for Annual March of Dimes Drive on Polio .... ; -K:'v '''7:.:7:.7::.y:7N 7 i-! . r'V: 7'.,7: - y V ,.-::v ; - , t t "-.w.i January 5, 1948 The annual March of Dimes, spearhead of the fight against Infantile Paralysis, will be held throughout the State of Utah and the Nation January 15 - 30, Frank Emery, Utah State Rep-reseatative Rep-reseatative for the March of Dimes announced today. The cost of fighting - polio has sky-rocketed, Mr. Emery said, in pointing out that rising prices and mounting polio incidences have placed a tremendous burden on the resources of the National Foundation Foun-dation for Infantile Paralysis, which this year celebrates their 10th anniversary an-niversary of its founding by Franklin Frank-lin Delano Roosevelt. The quota for the State of Utah has been set at $155,000, with collections to begin be-gin locally and nationally on January Jan-uary 15th. Boy Scouts will distribute plastic coin collectors in various stores and schools throughout the State and many local and statewide functions have been planned in the entertainment enter-tainment field to help meet the quota, Mr. Emery said. Mr. Emery pointed out that dur- ing the last four years Utah has I raised $263,000 from the March of Dimes campaigns and has spent twice as much in their Anti-Polio program, through aid from the National Na-tional Foundation. 30 polio victims in Utah are still hospitalized and need additional aid through March of Dimes efforts. Hundreds are in need of orthopedic surgery and physiotherapy, Mr. Emery added, "and their only help will come thru the money raised in Utah by contributions con-tributions of the March of Dimes." The committee for eWst Millard is headed by Mrs. Reva Bliss, chairman, chair-man, with Mrs. June" Reid, secretary, secre-tary, and this will be the fifth year they have served on the drive. Local assistants will be annonuced later. Also plans for the annual Birthday Ball and March of Dimes. |
