Show jtj Dairy Hints J Oats straw Is a very poor feed for dairy cows. If you can cut the corn fodder It will be eaten better by the cows than oats straw. e e It Is Just as possible to overfeed a cow as It Is to underfeed, although It Is more uncommon. One extreme Is just as unprofitable as the other, e e e People who have been underfeeding their cows generally go to the other extreme whenever they are convlncd that thlr present method of feeding Is not correct. e e The calf should receive the first milk or colostrum from Its mother. Colostrum Is thick, very yellow In color, and contains nearly six times the amount of protein contained In ordinary milk. e e Dishcloths fall to reach the cracks and crevices where dirt and bacteria ar prone to lodge; they fall to cut grease and dirt, and It Is almost Impossible Im-possible to keep them In a sweet, sanitary san-itary condition. Underfeeding of dairy cows, ocenr-lng ocenr-lng especially during the winter months, Is one of the most common reducers of profits for the dairy farmer. farm-er. Overfeeding, however, may be Just as unprofitable. e e Every dairy farmer should provide himself with a milk house to be used exclusively for the handling of milk and milk products. In building a milk house, do not place It too near the stable. Make It an entirely separate building with sufficient window space. Sunlight Is a good disinfectant. |
