Show Legion Setting New Membership Records More than 1,786,000 veterans already have paid their 1957 dues in The American Legion, in the greatest advance membership- landslide in all its 38-year 38-year history. This was announced today by Department Commander Parley E. Jensen of the Utah American Legion after receiving a flash from National Headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind-, on the sensational sensa-tional progress of the nationwide nation-wide reenrollment campaign for 1957. "As of today The American Legion nationally has recorded an increase of more than 592,-000 592,-000 memberships over its early enrollment campaign on this date last year," Commander Jensen said. "All former records rec-ords have been shattered." The Department of Utah is keeping pace with this national 1957 membership surge of The American Legion, Commander Jensen said- "As of today in this state we already have a paid enrollment for 1957 of 4049," he said. "This represents an impressive gain of 699 ,over the corresponding date a year ago. We have set our goal now on an all-time high membership for 1957. We are shooting at 7061 members." (The Beaver County posts are pressing an active membership mem-bership drive, with Beaver out in front with 130 of quota, and Milford at an all-time high for this date, with 76 of quota. Commander Dick Manzione at Beaver has his sights set at 100 members for 200 o'f quota, and Commander Com-mander Ray Walker at Milford Mil-ford observed that "The Milford Mil-ford post always starts slow, but we expect to top the Beaver Beav-er membership before the drive is over.") -j Commander Jensen said the outlook was most promising that The American Legion would have two million paid-up members ,for 1957 by Dec. 31st of this year. "With this flying start," he predicted, "The American Legion Le-gion should exceed three million mil-lion members in 1957 by a wide margin."
