Show SALT LAKE AND RETURN- Several days ago we went to Salt Lake city to the see the town, our mother, moth-er, sist-rs, brothers, and best girl; the latter., course of, being the chief attraction. attrac-tion. The night before we started we invited a frie.id to share our humble cot. (Which is portion of the press room Soor, the foot of the cot being beneath the window.) He accepted our invitation, invita-tion, but we are sorry we tenderhd it to liim. We thought him a quiet and sound sleeper but had counted without our host, or rather, miscalculated the snor-iuo snor-iuo ability of our friend. He turned in quite earls but as we attended a meef'ng at the boaid of trade it was rather late when we retired. Alare number of friends and subscribers were at the said mect ng and we all partook of the spim uf patriotism ttotn a slim-necked bot-Ic bot-Ic labeled ; Old Btuibon," and conse qiuiitly wlieii we reached our dry ttoods we we:e le ling decidedly good although ahttte s!eepv. Our friend was in out co ana had the cover paper blanket wrapped tightly around his form. Both our.pillows. which are composed of two old shirts and a quantity of waste pape', weie carefully concealed beneath his massive and well developed organ of hearing. His feet were stirking out the covers, the toes of the same tighily clinching the window sill a sill-y grip as -er beg pardon. He was the very picture ot contentment and comfort, and from him come orth no sound but 'Gr-r cis-poo." We gazed on the picture for for a few moments, but becoming aware that it was time we were in the land of dreams, we shook him roughly, and asked to be allowed to use a portion of our own cot, but the only answer we received re-ceived from that motionless hog was "G-r-r- ciss-poo." The angel of slumber and the imp of snore had taken complete com-plete possession of his body and soul. He slept and snored on. Finally as a last resort we attached the hose to the hydrant and turned the stream upon him He turned over, mmned ud and shouted "I can dive farther and swim faster than any darned man in the pond." After an hours hard work we convinced him that he was not in a pond but our cot. When quite was restored we both turned in together. to-gether. Usually we sleep very lightly aud very little, but on this occasion, owing ow-ing no doubt to the spirit of patriotism partaken of at the boaad of trade meet" ing we slept like a top our head spin-ing spin-ing aroung at a lively rate until late in the forenoon. During the night we cauget a very bad cold that some one had turned loose during the spring. Our head felt like a tub of very large dimen sions and was filled with pain and the few brains we had lelt. We turned to look for our friend, but behold he was gone and with him our socks. We hasti-Ig hasti-Ig dressed, but not having time to pur-cease pur-cease a new pair of socks' before the train left, we walked to tbe depot with nothing on our feet but a pair of well ventilated shoes as as a consequent did fell very well, The ride to Salt Lake in the comfortable chair car of the .Rio Grande Western greatly improved our health but wejfelt very sick after spending a night in one of Salt Lake's leading hotels. That is we supposed it was a leading hotel, having been led there by a big, proud man in a blue uniform. We supposed this man to be a member of the Order of Mars or some other planet as he wore a bright siver star on his. breast. On the following Wednesday morning we boarded a splendidly equipped equip-ped car on world famed Rio Grande Western and as the train moved we started homeward. After a short rapid run we arrived at Thistle where we stopped fifteen minutes for lunch. We borrowed a quarter from the trainboy aud purchase a sandwicn and cup of coftee Vte had quite a tussle with the sandwich and in the encounter lost two of our besi front te-th, but with the aid .I ttie coffee we succeed in getting it partially down our neck. For some un-kuopn un-kuopn leason our stomach lefused to allow al-low it to en-er and sandwich and coffee togeteer with our breakfastwas compeled to back up and return to the surface We arrived home all light with the ex caption of a hollow feling and went at once to rest. We have beep quite ill since then and we consider that fact a sufficient apology for penning the above. |
