Show Lady Templars start season with by:Meagan VanOrman Girls basketball team has started their 1998 season with three wins and 2 losses. Their first game was in Gunnison where they sneaked past the Lady Bulldogs with a score of 3 3 5 . Some of the top scorers in that game were; Anique Denton with 13 points, Stacey Wheeler with seven, and Sabrina BoIIi and Takesha Cox both added six points. Beating their rivals, was a very satisfy8-- ing accomplishment. Their next games were a double header against St. Joseph. While in Ogden on the 13th of January; the Templars began with a slow start, but came out of the locker room at halftime fired up. They ended up defeating the Jay haw ks w ith a score of 37-3- Anique 0. Denton again aided in the scoring w ith 6 points, and Takesha Cox had eight. 1 On the following Thursday, the Lady Jay hawks traveled to Manti, to play the ever ready Lady Templars. (Some are more popular than others, however.) Those who participate in these sports know that preparation and conditioning are important. You should always warm up and stretch before en- strenuous physical activity. But solitaire? Now theres a stretch. But seriously, winter sports can be dangerous. Avalanches are a seri- gaging in ous danger, especially when you leave the ski resorts and head into the back country. According to the book Avalanche Safety for Skiers and Climbers, you should always go with a group and all the members of your group should carry a shovel and an avalanche beacon. Statistics reported by the Cyberspace Snow and Avalanche center show that 90 of those buried in an avalanche are alive at first, but after 30 minutes only 50 are still living. Because of this it is important to find and uncover a victim immediately w ithout waiting for help. Avalanches 3-- record 2 nation by Manti with the final score of 47-2with 10 Lady Templars scoring. The next week, held two challenging games for the Templars. On January 20, they traveled to Juab to take on the 4, undefeated Wasps. The Templars were unprepared for the precise shooting from Juab, and were defeated with the score of Stacey Wheeler was the leading scorer w ith 19 77-4- 3. points. Grantsville came to Manti on January 22 to play in a high intensity and nail biting game. After a tough fight, the Lady Templars fell behind by two points in the last few seconds w ith the score of 57-5Good luck to the Lady Templars throughout the rest of their season. MIIS athletes attend track camp by: Margaret Burnham Some Manti High students spent the holidays leaping over bars and throw ing jav-clishot puts, and the discus. Utah State University in Logan hosted a Pole Vault and throwing camp to prepare track participants for the spring. Tiffany n, Jackson and Margaret Burnham were trained in the art of pole vaulting and were en tertained by watching collegiate athletes. Students occur most often in gullies, bowls and cirques.
