Show COMMUNICATION March 2C. Editor Republican-Tho Republican-Tho Lord glveth and tho Lord take-th, take-th, but tho froBt taketh all my first crop of lucern last year and tho weavol took most of tho second crop and tho cold dry summer and grass-hoppors grass-hoppors finished my pastures and what little grain I raised went to feed those hungry ofilco holders and appropriations. But tho God of nature saved a patch of bull-rushes and slough grass for my stock which I cut and stacked for them. But I run short of feed, so tho God of Intelligence Intellig-ence tnught mo to cut down a lot of trees at my farm and let my horses and cattle broust on the limbs and bark which ls all right, but this was not enough so I hauled the trees to my mill nnd sawed them Into lumber lum-ber nnd hauled tho sawdust back and fed It to my horses and cattlo, I mixed It as follows: A. single wagon box full of sawdust and four sacks of rolled grain or bran nnd shorts In the box of sawdust. Then I sprinkled sprink-led several buckets of syrup, half water over it to dampen It, then mix It all up with a scoop and drlvo my team round In a circle and pile It out on tho snow. You ought to see tho animals .eat It up. I glvo them a little straw saturated with syrup And water and my stock are doing lino. This ls how I have been feeding them for over two weeks, Including In-cluding my milk cows and work horses, bommodllduo trees aro tho best for food. I Intend to plane tho lumber Into shavings whllo It ls green nnd soft and feod the shavings, as they are more soft. Tho collogo Is analysing It over. I havo other plans for a substitute for hay which I will wrlto about later, I havo no sawdust for salo as It Is too valuable for feod and Is a success, as tho old pioneers say "Anything beato a Bnow bank." Yours for cheap feed, ROBERT BAXTER. |
