Six Thousand People View Remains at Bee Hive Bouse Tabernacle Could NotHold Crowd Interment at Brlgbam City, The funeral of President Snow of the Mormon church occurred Suniays The remains lay in state from 7 until 9:45 at the Bee Hive house, where they were viewed by about 6,000 people who filed past in a double row. There seemed to be no end to those desiring a last look at the well known features of the venerable president, and when the doprs were closed there seemed an endless end-less chain of disappointed ones, a few of whom, by earnest pleading, were admitted to the presence of the dead. At 9:55 President Joseph F. Smith and Apostle Young left the Bee Hive house, President Snow's residence, followed by other church dignitaries, apostles bearing the casket, the sons of the president, the seven presidents of seventies, presiding bishopric and members of the family. The floral offerings were carried by representatives representa-tives of the church organizations. Hundreds of people - followed tin cortege from the house. The progress was slow because of the weight of the casket, and the frequency of the enforced en-forced rests of the pall-bearers. At the Tabernacle grounds a roulti tude of people were in waiting. From the north gate a rope was stretched to the east end of the Tabernacle, separating the public from the procession, proces-sion, which proceeded to the north side and entered the edifice at the entrance en-trance nearest the altars. When the funeral party arrived, all excepting the seats reserved were occupied, the gallery and choir seats were filled, and in every isle and entranceway theYe was a crush of people. Outside were thousands more vainiy striving for a place where a glimpse of the interior could be had, or a word or note of music mu-sic heard. Every conveyance at Temple Tem-ple square seemed filled with people going to the common point. Of the disappointed ones many departed early while more lingered in the grounds until the services were at an end.- The Tabernacle was decorated with white, entwined with autumn leaves. On the organ front hung a life-size and life-like portrait of Piesident Snow. Beneath the portrait was a miniature reproduction of the temple in ivy and immorteles. The services were impressive im-pressive and the singing f the Temple ad- Tabernacle choirs ."exceptional. At 12:40, when the services weie concluded, con-cluded, the casket was borne to the Short Line depot, where it was put aboard a special train for Brigham City, where interment took place. About 350 people accompanied the remains re-mains on the train, composed largely of high church officials and relatives. ' The speakers at the Tabernacle were Apostles Brigham Young, John Henry Smith, John W. Taylor, Rudger Claw-Clawson Claw-Clawson and President Joseph F. Smilh, who paid glowing tributes to the departed leader. President Smith recalled the fact that President Snow was the last of the apostles who were intimately acquainted with the prophet, proph-et, Joseph Smith. |
