Show THEATRICAL. The performance in Logan Theatre, on Saturday evening last, was witnessed by a densely crowded house. The play was "Ended, or a Struggle for Life and Liberty." It was well mounted and some of the scenery was particularly fine, and well worthy a much finer building. While some of the members of the company showed, by their bearing upon the stage, that they were far from being anything but amateurs, several of the characters were rendered with marked ability. Particularly may this be said of the acting of Miss Haws, who, in the character of the devoted wife, "Charlotte Evans," was very effective, Miss N?? as "Becky" showed talent and self-possession, while Mr. Stevens, as the comical, humorous "William Stubens" created a great amount of laughter, and Mr. Kirkham as "Ralph Evans," was very effective in some of the more thrilling scenes. Mr. Albert Jones as "Bosworth," the plotting, revengeful villain, interpreted the character well. Others of the company rendered their respective characters in a creditable manner, though all might, with practice, improve, as they doubtless will.

The pleasure of the audience at witnessing the performance, was evidently complete, and at times their enthusiasm was so unbounded as to get the better of their good manners, for many, during two or three of the more thrilling scenes, seemingly unable to contain themselves, leaped to their feet or stood up on the seats, applauding most vigorously. We have often witnessed more artistic theatrical performances, but must say that we have rarely seen a more enthusiastic audience. |
