Some snowfall nearly every day in the past week. Butchers say good beef is scarce and hard to obtain. President Wm. B. Preston is once more with us. Z.C.M.I. will be open on Saturday for customers. Have you seen Dr. Hitchcock's new and tasteful sign? Measles in Logan. Several serious cases are already known. Washington's Birthday was not generally observed in Logan Every citizen who has been registered should vote next Monday. On Saturday and Sunday next, a conference will be held at Paradise. Don't ask any member of the Logan Rifle Club the result of the last match. ??? Jas. S. Brown was the speaker at the Tabernacle last Sunday afternoon. Z.C.M.I. has been closed since Wednesday for the purpose of stock taking. Joseph Fredericksen is now able to walk about without the use of crutches. General H. S. ???, Superintendent of Z.C.M.I., was in Logan yesterday. Two weeks ago eggs were selling at 30 cents per dozen. Now 12 ½ cents is the ruling price. The U. & N. R. R. pay car arrived at Logan on Wednesday evening, and now the boys are happy. Hans Neilsen, the man who was accidently [accidentally] shot by a companion last week, is improving. A large party of track layers left for the terminus on Monday. Verily, the U. & N. R. R. boometh. A good crossing of sand and gravel has been made over the slough on the north side of Z.C.M.I. We have learned from the proper authority, that the municipal election will be held in Logan Hall. Next Sunday is the most appropriate day in four years for ladies to make propositions of marriage. A??? Moses Thatcher ?? bed his home in Logan on Monday night. He is looking and feeling well. ??? and ??? parties are growing more popular. The season for such enjoyment is rapidly gliding away. Visitors to Logan during the R. R. blockades are sometimes obliged to remain longer than they really desire. 188 feet in length which ???, is said to contemplate building. Phil. Maro??, with the Providence Dramatic Company, is making a tour of this valley. Success to theatricals. The second young man who was engaged in the fight on Third Street last week, was after his return fined $10 and costs. Don't let any idea that there is to be no opposition next Monday deter you from voting for the ??? of the People's choice. The office now occupied by Dr. G???, is to be ?iled up and used for the city recorder's office and a police station. We expect to see every candidate, whose name appears on the People's Ticket, elected by an overwhelming majority. The performance at the Providence Theatre last Saturday night is said by those who were present to have been a "success." Heavy drifting of snow at Cullinston station has caused the delay of U o U. & N. trains lately, several engines being required to clear the track. R. S. Watson, Esq., manager of Ogden Branch of Z.C.M.I., was in town yesterday. He seemed to look upon Logan with a favorable eye. Doctor Norcross made his appearance on the street a few days since. He is now convalescent, and we hope he will soon be able to attend to his duties. The mail-carrier, who should have reached Logan from Newton Wednesday night, up to last evening had not been heard from. Fears are entertained for his safety. The Friends of T.B. Cardon, Esq., will regret to learn that he is confined to his bed through the effects of a severe cold. Though at present quite ill, it is hoped that he will soon recover. The target used by the Logan Rifle Club in their recent contest with the Wellsville team was a very poor one-it could not and would not be hit in the proper place every time. The p??? been very much improved by the removal of the balcony which once graced the front of that building, and by the putting up of a very neat and substantial sign. A new post office building is being created immediately east of the store of Goodwin Brothers. The removal of the office from its present location is a change which will be greatly appreciated. If the person, who stated that during the latter half of the present month we were to have pleasant weather, will call on one of our prominent stock-buyers, the aforesaid weather guager will hear of something to his advantage. Stock buyers will have a large part of their profits taken off, by the terrible loss of cattle from freezing and starvation. One point, however, in favor of the owners is that the decrease in the number of cattle will have a tendency to increase the price per head. "Our Meat Market" heretofore operated in the interest of the Logan Temple, has been leased for three months to E. Farnes, Esq. The cause of the change is that Superintendent Card could not obtain animals for slaughtering necessary to supply the market. [unreadable] |
