Show Municipal Convention in Wellsville. ??? to a call from Robert Leathum, Esq., chairman of the Central Committee of the People's Party of Wellsville city, a meeting was held Feb. 19th, 1880, in the meeting house of said city, for the purpose of nominating candidates to the voted for at the ensuing municipal election. John Hendry was chosen temporary chairman and Jos. [Joseph] Howell temporary secretary. A permanent organization was then effected, with Robt. [Robert] Leatham in the chair and Jos. [Joseph] Howell as secretary. On motion the chair appointed a committee on nominations, consisting of Levi Minnerley, Chas Bailey and Isaac Green. During the absence of the committee interesting speeches were made by Robt. Baxter, Sen, and Bishop Wm [William] H. Maughan. The committee after due deliberation presented the following nominations, which were unanimously sustained: For Mayor, Wm. H. Maughan; Councilors, J?. Hendry, E. Owens, Daniel Hill, Franck Gunnell, Robert Leatham and Wm. Haslam; Justices of the Peace, Robert Baxter, Sen. And Wm. S. Poppleton; Recorder and Treasurer, Peter M. Maughan; Marshal, Wm. L. Walters. On motion, Robert Leatham, Robt. Baxter, Sen., and Joshua Salisbury were sustained as the Central Committee of the People's Party in Wellsville for the ensuing two years. J. S.
