Show Lehi Living Mildred Dean and Gloria Kirkham to note golden wedding Dean and Gloria Stone Kirkham are pleased to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They will be honored at a family gathering. Dean is the son of Oliver and LaVerde Bushman Kirkham. He was born and raised in Lehi. He attended Lehi High School where he excelled in sports and went on to play football at Southern Utah University in Cedar City. As a United States Marine, Dean served in World War Ii in the Philippines, where he was an airplane mechanic. Upon return from the service, he went into the auto parts business in Lehi. He then changed occupations to be a Utah County Deputy Sheriff. He patrolled northern Utah County and made many friends because of his integrity and fairness. He was in the sheriff's department for 26 years, retiring in 1985. Dean was a Lehi volunteer fireman for 28 years. He also served as a Lehi City Councilman and president of the Jaycees for a number of long-lastin- g years. He spends his i Dean and Gloria The Lehi Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and offers activities and programs for those 60 years of age and ' 'it ; - enjoyed decorating her home, tole painting, crocheting, cooking and sewing. Her daughters will always remember the beautiful prom dresses and clothes that she made for them, sometimes working late at night so they would be surprised with a new dress. She has served in many callings in the church, including Primary, Mutual and Relief Society. She is currently a temple worker at the Mount children. Gloria has worked at Durfey Dry Cleaners, the Maverick and Penneys, where she made many friends. The couple has always made their home in Lehi, where they raised five children: Karen and Dale Ekins, Terry and Debbie Kirkham, Rebecca and Kim Beck, all of Lehi; Barbara and Ruel Unsworth, West Valley City; and Gail Schumacher, St. George. They are proud to be grandparents of four boys and eight girls. are the older. Cedar Fort residents invited to participate in , programs and meals. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kent M. Sumsion of Lehi. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David C. Rich of Park City. A reception will honor them Feb. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lehi 20th Ward, 145 E. 1500 North. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. Attending the bride will be her sisters, Anne Louise and Katrina Kaye Sumsion. Best man duties will be performed by Brian Anderson and Jeremiah Wilson. Honored guests will include Harold and Marie Hutchings, Max and Betty Sumsion and Margaret Rich. The bride is a graduate of Lehi High School. She is a senior nursing student at BYU. She is an Air Force ROTC cadet. The groom is a graduate of A locally-owne- Park City High School. He is studying economics at the University of Utah. He is employed by the National Guard in Draper. They request no gifts, please. Mildred was born Feb. 18, 1913 in Pleasant Grove to Ezra James and Elsie Walker Swenson. She graduated from BYU in Home Economics and taught school in Orem and American Fork before teaching many years at the Utah State Developmental Center. She married Max Ferre' on Aug. 5, 1937 and he died in Feb. 1976. She later married Hugh Wilcox and he died in Dec, 1991. She served a mission for the LDS Church in Oakland, CA. She was a member of the orchestra in school and played in the BYU orchestra. She still enjoys playing her viola at church and community functions.
