Show Lehi Free Press - August s. 112 Page 12 SHAME, SHAME, SHAME Letter To The Editor Dear Editor: SHAME SHAME SHAME Sports in Lehi hit a new low this past week. It happened Tuesday and Wednesday night at the two ALL STAR games. The first game, with the other team leading 13 to 1, six little boys sat on the bench all night waiting to play -- they didn't get in. SHAME SHAME SHAME. The second night was even worse the game went 15 innings everyone got to play BUT ONE LITTLE BOY. Shame again. What kind of coaches would allow this to happen?? And what are the rules? I hope the coaches and those in School District Morale Is Pretty Low Dear Editor: The morale of Alpine School District employees is sinking to a low ebb and rightly so. What normal, g group of people wouldn't lose enthusiasm and confidence after TWO years of harrassment by the news media -sensationalism stirred up by a minority group of people who would like to take over the schools, an example audit called for by a glory hunting politician, and to top it all off a Grand Jury Hearing being pushed for by a local businessman who has a personal vendetta against the school administrators. The minority group is still trying to run the schools; the ten month audit done by three auditors (two CPA's) cost the taxpayers well over $1,000,000; the Grand Jury Hearing, if one is held, would surely cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Can we as taxpayers afford to waste money like this and put our schools in jeopardy? You might say some good has come from the audit; it will save the district money (improvements can be made in any organization, public or private). I imagine some of the districts that have had the same practices as Alpine will probably change their ways - or does the Legislature have plans to audit the . other thirty-nin- e districts and spend about four million - or has Alpine just been the "goal"? Why hasn't something criminal surfaced during all of these attacks and careful scrutiny of the district's practices? Because, there is nothing of a criminal nature to surface in Alpine School District.' ALPINE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S BUSINESS IS EDUCATION. Let us as parents be active, constructive, and supportive. Let's give our input to the advisory councils and committees organized under Superintendent Welcker's direction. If a parent sees something wrong with the education of his most prized possession, his child, then he or she is making a mistake not to work with the proper Area Administrator and then the Board Member to get to the root of it.. U the, ''gripe" does not concern your ; student or something legitimate or constructive, then forget it ! You know, secretaries are not highly paid employees. In Alpine District they are generally overworked. However, they are on the in and know the character of the administrators with whom they work. I've worked in the administration office for thirty-fiv- e years under four different superintendents and for administrators in nearly every department. Almost without exception, I have found them to be wise, honest, intelligent men and women -leaders in the community. They have worked hard and are dedicated to this business of education. The people who know me will tell you I've been a fighter for the right all my life. I am hard-workin- . : proud to sign my name to this letter to the editor. I challenge and urge the editor of any paper to print it. Just to keep things above board and perfectly clear to anyone who may read my "epistle," my brother is one of the administrators of Alpine School Kent J. Abel, Business District Administrator. (Just to clear the air, d when I he was started working at Alpine District so he had no part in hiring me.) He has been literally crucified by the press -beginning two years ago at board election time. I know him well and can honestly make these statements (have double-checke-d everything that follows). He has always been the whip around the district to save money. He's had a watchful eye out that employees haven't abused their sick leave and has been ready to tell any employee who has been slothful in his.her work habits to change his ways, especially in our office and business departments. He is a intelligent man who has saved the district during the past several years between one and two million dollars (IVi plus) by wise investments and good money The school lunch management. program was in a deficit position; when put under his control, he and the devoted help under him brought this million dollar program to a one-hafund without increasing the price of school lunches as much as the other districts in the state. He has played his part in making Alpine District either the lowest or next to the lowest in per pupil cost. If anyone would like to substantiate this, please contact Jack Olson, Executive Director of the Utah Taxpayers Association, who has comparison data available to send you. Check it out! Whv has it been low? - because of the effective and efficient operation of the district. He and the other administrators in this district must be doing something right. Alpine District was one of the first districts in the State to computerize its inventory management system. This has undoubtedly saved money in the buying and inventory procedures and will save more in the future. Kent has the knowledge and experience necessary to keep a $69 million budget under control. He has been a well thought of leader among the professional business people in the districts of the state. His advice is sought and always accepted as valuable by others in his same position. Alpine District has been so well respected We want it that way - not notorious from the media's front-pag- e half truths. Let's be proud of our district again. Help us boost the morale! Call Alpine School District, ext. 250, 251, and let us make notes for the administrators and the board if we have your support. P.S. Why not call your local or state media people and let them know you think Alpine has had enough? Joyce Abel Christensen We have been receiving calla from citizens of individuals going door to door selling items or soliciting residential repairs. Several arrests from not having a city license have been made as a result of these calls and officers observing this type of activity. Should you be approached by someone wishing to sell something at a great discount, then be aware. Merchandise sold by such peddlers is often stolen or obtained by other dishonest means. Law enforcement agencies in the Western Sates, especially Utah and California, have been alerted to the activities of a gang that is making the rounds again offering to repair and paint or oil roofs or do other home repairs. These people will use inferior products, leave work unfinished, or not even start the job if they are able to collect in advance. They are especially good about offering bargains or discounts, to our Senior Citizens. We have suggested scheduling at least one or two debates then, but Hatch has refused," Wilson said. "Utahns deserve the right to hear my opponent and I fully debate the important issues of this race. "It is impossible to bold all 15 debates in one month." "The Hatch campaign has said that the others will have to wait until the Senator is prepared to turn his full attention to the campaign. I think the people of Utah are owed a better explanation as to why he won't debate," said the Mayor.
