So states Mrs. Love-lesshusban- d. Mrs. Loveless of Bountiful plays cello in the Utah Symphony and has participated in the Chamber Orchestras performance on New Years Eve. But in order to become a successful cellist she had to combine her career with her family for 32 years. The Symphony grew up with my family, wrote Mrs. Loveless in her Player Profile. Mrs. Loveless raised six children during her 32 consecutive years with the Utah Symphony. But long before she considered having a family, she was determined to make a career for herself, playing violin and cello. Her father, an accomplished violinist and music teacher from Germany, and her mother, a piano teacher, taught Evelyn a deep love for music as well as excellence in playing the violin, the cello and the piano. The family from Provo gained local recognition as a string quartet, and Evelyn gained her first orchestral experience at 4 on a 16 size violin. During her high school years she studied with Joseph Wetzels, principal cellist with the Utah Symphony, and her idea to join the symphony came a solid plan. In 1950, straight after her graduation from Provo High School, she did join the Utah Symphony and has been with them ever since. Her Player Profile indicates that Mrs. Loveless attended the University of Utah during the day and played in rehearsals and performances at night. She received a fine arts degree, married D. James Loveless and joined the BYU faculty as a teacher and artist. Loveless also played in the Utah Symphony (contrabass) but after 14 years he decided that two family members in the symphony combined with a growing number of children was a bit much.
