Various religious groups are opposed to contraception, abortion, etc., not because they think God is (who knows how God thinks?), but because they wish to increase the membership of their particular sect. From your remarks, Ms Dastrup, you certainly seem to be very misinformed about the Right to Life Organization. You stated that we dont get involved in child abuse, teenage pregnancy, unemployment, and starvation, yet we interfere with a parents decision to let a small defenseless child die. Well, Ms Dastrup, I would like to let you know about Right to Life, not that it is necessary for us to justify our organization but we feel that since we have been blamed for all of the above we need to inform you, as well as some of the public, about your misinformation. First, we Right to Lifers come from all walks of life and all kinds of ideals and we have one feel that thing in common-w- e each child or individual is a person first and not an object. we care when we see an abused child, and it hurts us, we care when we see people unemployed, and we care when we .see a teenager pregnant. We are concerned about these issues and Second , fere life. We will interfere when we see that an individual is being denied the right to life because he or she is not what society wants them to be. ; These parents of severely handicapped children need to make decisions, but under pressure how many of them can always say they made the right one. These parents will have to live with the decision and are going. to be haunted by this, especially if they start to wonder what might have happened to this child if it were to live say a few weeks, a few years? Up to 11 years ago our individual rights were protected under the Constitution regarding life, but since the abortion decision, we now see that individuals are fighting for the freedom to live, to have medical attention and many more rights that have been lost and need to be restored. Is not this society wrong to deny a child the right to life, simply because society says that this life will be a financial burden, an emotional burden, wrong sex, or because presumably of no value ot this society? When will we realize that we have no right to put our judge- ments, values, and our standards on any other person? What right deemed to be libelous or in bad taste. Main, Bountiful, Utah 84010. does society have to take a valuable life away from a person because he or she is severely handicapped, bedridden or still in the womb? When are we going to think of human beings as having potential rather than an object to be destroyed. When are we going to accept one another as we are, even if our brothers are not what we want them to be? When are we going to love, enjoy, to help and get involved with one anothers problems. Yes, Ms Dastrup, our organization did interfere becuase people are afraid to get involved. We see it every day in the newspapers. We read about people standing around and watching a 'murder or a rape going on and not even lifting a finger to help the victims, because the witnesses are afraid to get involved. Perhaps, Ms Dastrup, if more people were to get involved with their brothers problems there would less reason for our organization to interfere. Isabel Trujillo Syracuse FCSM?
