Show Kaysville Okays Purchase of 2 Patrol Cars - KAYSVILLE Although bids came in about $2,000 over budgeted funds, the city council last week approved the purchase of two patrol cars for the Kaysville City Police Department. Police Chief Lyle Larkins reported a bid estimate of $9,893 as made for each police package car but then actual bid amounts ranged from $1 1,130 to 5 $11,430 per vehicle. Larkins said a bid of $10,000 a vehicle was made for one equipped with a 305 engine but it did not meet the departments engine specifications which require the larger 350, carburetor. It just hasnt got it for patrol, he noted of the smaller 305 engine. If I was on patrol, four-barr- el ' the 350 gives you more of an edge because its a faster car." Larkins said he could raise the extra $2,000 out of his budget by bid to Murdock Chevrolet of Bountiful at $22,500 on the 350 package. Larkins said one of the patrol cars will be used by a new patrolman of the department and the other as a replacement vehicle. The new additions will give the department nine patrol cars and patrolmen on the city police raeliminating some hand-hel- d dios and radar unit and about $400 budgeted for a light package on a patrol car. After considering the merits and price of the 305 engine patrol car, the city council voted to award the low force.
