Petersen, Advanced Placement English teacher, who also teaches four writing classes, said the competition was open to the entire student body. Two other writing classes are also taught by Steve Knecht. We had good participation this year, Petersen said. There were over 500 poetry entries, more than 60 short stories, and about 100 humorous essays, as well as 25 art entries. He felt the writing classes helped to increase student awareness of quality in writing. As teachers, we see people with unusual gifts of imagination. We encourage them to do more writing.
