BIRD Wizard Lakeside Review sixth-grad- CLEARFIELD For the second time in four years the yellow brick road leads back to North Davis Junior High. North Davis will present the classic The Wizard of Oz May 4, 5, 7 and 8 in the school gym. The show begins at 7 p.m. and tickets will be sold in advance for $2 or at the door for $2.50. Jerry Vanderdoes, musical theater director for North Davis Junior, said he is bringing the Wizard of Oz back after such a short rest because the show is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The show, with a cast of 35, is also fun to do. Its just a fun show to do. wonderIt is a ful story. Its a classic, Vanderdoes said. Heather Berg said she didnt know her poster design would be entered in a contest. It was an assignment for school, she said. Heathers teachers selected the poster from those turned in on the assignment and told Heather they were entering it in a regional competition. I didnt know Id won the regional contest until after I heard about the grand prize, she said. Heather was awarded first place in the state for all e students, and Best of Region in the Northern region. Ill help tell them' how to spend it, said Heather of the cash prize for the school. Theyll give me some ideas. I know my teacher wants a computer. The $1,000 cash prize was donated by Anderson Lumber Company. Heathers poster, which she describes as a watercolor of a big leafy tree with a boy sitting under it with a book on his face and a bird in it somewhere, includes the caption: Add Beauty to the Earth Plant a Tree. Heather Berg I got to meet the governor when he signed the proclamation making April 27 Arbor Day, Heather said. Heather also attended State Arbor Day ceremonies held at Jack-so- n Elementary School in Salt Lake City on April 27 where she received her $100 savings bond. The poster will be distributed to schools, government offices and many businesses throughout the state to celebrate Arbor Day to promote tree planting. Doris Trujillo, a former dancer with Ririe Dance Company will perform dance movements. On May 4, the PTA will host a girls night out at the school beginning at 6:30 p.m. May 7 has been scheduled for a PTA luncheon to introduce the new board members.
