Show Page 5A Lakeside Review Wednesday, April J, 1981 Clearfield Facilify Plant Builds Huge Canister CLEARFIELD Hercules Incorporated has completed and delivered the largest thick wall graphite filament wound composite structure ever built. The units are being fabricated at the Hercules structures composite manufacturing facility in Clearfield. This tube section, one of three to be delivered for the initial Air Force MX canister assembly and testing this fall, was shipped to Westinghouse Electric Corp., Sunnyvale, Calif., the Launch Canister Contractor. Two additional sections are to be supplied by Hercules for assembly by Westinghouse and delivery to the MX launcher system, Martin Marietta, 23-fo- The graphite fiber was manufactured at the Hercules Bacchus Works 20 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. Hercules officials said completion of the tube is in time to support Westinghouses assembly schedules. It falls less than eight months from contract by Westinghouse last summer.
