Produced by American Pro Skiing, and the third stop on the 1981 American Pro Skiing (APS) Tour, the Budweiser Cup at Powder Mountain will be a war mup event for the following weeks World Professional Mogul Skiing Championships, at Snowbird. The Powder Mountain event will be an opportunity for spectators to view the worlds hottest mogul skiing talent in competitive action. . Leading the APS Grand Prix point standings, and also first in money winnings, is Stan Kopter Kolby, from Boise, Idaho, who has a first and a second place finish under his belt so far this year. Kolby has won 81,600, and a total of 46 Grand Prix points, with Laytons Mark Archibald behind him with 34 points total and $750 total winnings after two events. Archibald is a former National Amateur Mogul Skiing Champion, and top U.S. National Team Mogul Skier. Stu OBrien, from Snowbird, is third in the standings, with 31 points. OBrien is an amateur, unable to accept prize money, but has turned down 81,100 so far this season on the APS tour. Others Entered Other Ogden skiers featured at the Easter event will be Tom Leavitt, currently in a tie for 18th place, and Tom Cordova and Bob Minster, both tied for 25th in the standings. Ladies leader is Salt Lake Citys Kay Kucera, a U.S. FYeestyle Team amateur member. Kucera holds a slim lead over Jennifer Wilson, also from Salt Lake. Wilson is only two points behind, in a point system that awards three points for a 12th place finish. Ogdens Bobbie Chambers, from Snowbasin, took a second place at the Utah Pro Championships at Snowbasin on March 28, to move into third place in the ladies APS standings, with a 26 point total. A 5th place or better at Powder Mountain could put Chambers into the lead for the season title. First place at the Budweiser Easter Championships will be 8500 in the mens division, with prize money going down to 16th place. The event at Powder Mountain will be easily visible from the parking lot, and the public is invited. Spectators will not need skis or a lift pass, although the entire resort will be open for skiing. American Pro Skiing, in conjunction with KLO Radio and Alpine Sports in Ogden, will conduct a free drawing at the finals on Sunday, April 19, for prizes such as skis, ski passes, and other valuable prizes. The American Pro Skiing Tour, a creation of two former professional freestyle skiing competitors, Mike Hart, and A1 Johnson, both from Ogden, is in its third season as the premiere pro mogul skiing circuit in the U.S. , The competition is open to local amateurs, who may enter the qualifying event Saturday, April 18, by registering at Powder Mountain on Friday, April 17 any time during the day through 6 p.m. Finals is Sunday, April 18, 11 a,m.
