K i JALA1RE BARTON SHELLEY HILL t MIRIAM BRUTSCH - Girls State Calls Three From Layton Three Layton High School juniors have been selected for Girls Slate, to be held beginning June 7 al Southern Utah State College in Cedar City. Shelley Hill, Jalaire Barton and Miriam Brutsch are being sponsored by the Layton American Legion Post 87, under the direction of Emma Bellucci. Once in Cedar City, the young women will be given a crash course in forming a new state legislature. Taking Utah laws as a guide, they will observe at first hand all the problems of govern-- , ment. They will elect their own governor and other state, county and city officials. They will also present and argue bills in their own legislature and in other citizens ways live and during that period. Miss Hill is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brent C. Hill, 1766 N. Forbes and a member of the National Honor Society. She is on the Junior Committee, is student body secretary and sings in the a cappella choir. Miss Barton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Cecil Barton, 988 N. 2875 E., and enjoys music and gymnastics. LAYTON A member of the Lancelles, she is involved in ballet, on the drill team and a member of the National Honor Society. She is active in poetry and dramatic circles, in the Pep and Ski clubs and is a member of the Student Senate. She is in the concert and a cappella choirs and is on the baseball team. Miss Brutsch is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Werner Brutsch, 2319 E. 1200 N. and is active in volleyball and track. She is a member of the a cappella choir, a member of the California Scholastic Federation and is in the Pepa Club. She was also president of the sophomore class on the rally committee and participated in the Northerr California Math Tournament. .
