Show WEEKLY REFLEXDAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, APRIL 12, 1979 Completes Course DP h U Marine Second Lieutenant Kevin R. ORourke, son of Raymond G. and Florence M. ORourke of 422 W. 2200 N., Sunset, has completed the Amphibian Vehicle Officer Spaces Editfot Meads An SnplanaSion Course. THE was course designed to prepare students for assignment as an amphibian vehicle platoon leader. The students course of study centered on armored vehicle tactics and the duties and responsibilities of a platoon commander. In addition, they learned gunnery, communications and preventive maintenance procedures. AMPHIBIAN vehicles are used to transport troops and supplies both from ship to beachhead and during subsequent operations ashore. He is a 1978 graduate of Someone needs to explain this situation to me, and make it come out so I can understand the logic. LAST WEEK if you remember, this space was devoted to the plight of a young man who wasnt on the Utah team which played basketball against the All-St- ar course k The Calif. By DAVE WIGHAM . FIVE-wee- was conducted at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Arizona club. Reason given, at least one of them, by the man that coached the team, was that they didnt want to take the kid out of school for that much time. Okay, so we bought that explanation, didnt agree with it but we bought it. NOW THIS week a team from Utah has play in a BCI basketball tournament outside Weber State College. taken off to the state and will be gone for probably a week. What happened to the theory? Is it mm good for one event and yet not considered in others. The logic behind this move in the space of two weeks is beyond me. BY THE way, Davis County is represented with two top players ,on the club. Mark McCleery of Woods Cross and Gordon Anderson of Lay-to- n Back from intermountain drill competition in Idaho, the Gold Ds drill team is priming up for tryouts and other spring activity. They are, front 1 to r, Tiffany Hansen, Sharia Cook, Sherie Cook, Perry Ann Home, Tami Fenner, Cynda Craig, Wendy Swan, Wendy Carter, Justina Kawabata, Susan Cheney, Dawna Glabe. Tami Davenport, Jodi Farley. 2nd row, Monica Benson, Vanessa Voight, Malissa Heath, Stacy McFarland, Gwen Craig, Jan West, Teresa Barber, Lisa Higgs, Collett Hayes, Jodi Wright, Tiffany Pierson, Sherilyn Calton, Kathy Parrish. 3rd row, Kristy Wright, Jennifer Trujillo, Keri Corless, Elisha Evans, Dannette Matticks, April AT LEAST its good to see that the Utah players are able to participate in these games. This reporter can remember a few years ago when a senior at Bountiful High by the name of Larry Miller wanted to play in a game after the season was over in California. He was told if he did he was ineligible for baseball, so he didn't play in the basketball game. Mark is a first baseman for the Wildcats and although hell miss this weeks action with the tournament, he will be able to compete when he returns. All-St- People from Utah and Idaho viewed some local talent last weekend April 7 as the Gold THESE games do serve some purpose if only to give the college scouts a chance at seeing some of these players in action. Keep in mind though the scouts didnt select the team and a player doesnt have to be on ' one to get an offer from a school. Hats off to the state people for letting the players play in these games and still compete in other sports. Now if they can just come up with a logical explanation on their ALL-STA- R Diggers, Gold Dusters and Gold Ds drill teams, under the direction of Reta Felt traveled to Idaho Falls to perform at the Intermountain High School Drill Competition.
