I can honestly say there is a positive feeling of putting the team ahead of the individual right now. p. A COUPLE OF areas well continually have to improve in are our defense and rebounding. Im not so worried about getting the ball in the bucket; because weve got players that can do that, its working on those other areas." RICK HERDT sustained an injury during the tournament and will be out for at least two weeks. Mike Sorensen, who placed third in the bracket, was nearly yanked from the tournament because of a severe case of bronchitis. But the headstrong Sorensen showed a lot of character in refusing to be taken out and by winning the consolation crown. 167-pou- nd Weber 14-1- Ito J HU M RHrti orcnT ay & n 'it- - irMpf lltf than (tore team, tot I Lie itoif win. Finally against Kearns, Clearfield ended up tied with Kearns in the battle of the boards. On defense, Hansen was pretty pleased with his clubs zone press against Kearns. HEAVYWEIGHT, Dennis Langford, broke his arm last year and couldnt wrestle. But last weekend all bones were intact as he emerged into third place. Dennis isnt acting like a heavyweight, said his coach, He runs and in our tries to keep up with the running drills." Ill be the first to say that as a team we dont have a lot of skilled wrestlers, said Tennis. But weve got kids that show a lot of character in working hard and improving from week to week. DESPITE THE fact Clearfield has been beaten in rebounding, it appears the team knows what they must do to correct the problem. Besides setting a goal to beat Kearns last week, the team made another goal to do better in the rebounding department and they did just that. About the quicker tempo on offense, Hansen had the following to say. I believe this year were centering what we are doing around the kind of people that we have. For a while we havent had people who could move and get up and down the court like weve got this year. Therefore were gearing our game around the kind of people we have. THE KEY is if our kids continue to progress each week, pushing themselves to the limit and then going beyond that. If the seniors are content to not progress, then pur year will turn out poor. It looks as if the team has Shad Ragans desire to forget the past and make the best of the new season, then Clearfield could give a lot of Utah wrestlers some fis from now until March. ITS DIFFERENT for Clearfield High to do what theyre doing this year, but these guys have proven so far they can be successful in getting the job done. In another year, we may not do this, Hansen reported. The bench has done a super job, Hansen continued to say. He was very impressed with Boykins coming off the bench to notch six straight points and give Clearfield a much On the job for 78 years!
