Show Requiem Presentation Postponed, Rescheduled April 21 Date changes for the performance perfor-mance of Verdi's "Requiem" have been announced by the College of Southern Utah Music Department. I Dr. Blaine Johnson, choral director, di-rector, said the religious symphonic sym-phonic production will be pre Kumen L Jones, Business and Civic Leader, Dies, Funeral Services Conductd Wednesday Funeral Services were conducted conduct-ed Wednesday afternoon In the Cedar Second Ward Chapel for Kumen L. Jones, 82, prominent Cedar City business man and civic leader, who died Sunday morning, February 24, after a long and painful Illness from a neck injury. Mr. Jones suffered a vertebrae fracture in his neck about two years ago In an accident on his farm which he operated until about a year ago. The neck condition con-dition became progressively worse until he had been bedfast for most of the past year. Always an active livestockman and businessman Mr. Jones was a past president of the Pipe Springs Cattle Co., and was an original organizer and manager of the Cedar City Mercantle and Livestock Co., Active in civic affairs he was a past president and charter member of the Cedar City Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce. He had served as president of the Cedar City Rotary Club and of the Associated Associat-ed Civic Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah, and had served In practically every civic capacity capa-city in the community. He was born In Cedar City on Feb. 21, 1881. a son of Lchl W. and Henrietta Lunt Jones. He married Ann Elizabeth Leigh June 26, 1907, In the St. George Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She died Dec. 10, 1930. He married Amy Jan? Leigh, Oct 16, 1931. She died Nov. 14. 1&3. He later married Iva Rich Osborn. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Elizabeth). Courtney, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a sented Sunday, April 21 rather than March 1 as had been previously pre-viously announced. He explained that the postponement would provide more rehearsal time in preparation for the ambitious musical undertaking which is .being sung entirely in Latin by the soloists and two 70-volce choirs. Accompaniment will be provided by he CSU Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Professor Roy L. Halversen. A brass choir and special sound equipment will further broaden the scope and beauty of the presentation,' pre-sentation,' according to Dr. Johnson, John-son, who describes the "Requiem" "Requi-em" as a music effort without equal in spectacular qualities. Soloists for the performance Include Christine Winterrose, Janice Ja-nice Olsen, Rowene DeFlore, Mary Ma-ry Sargent, Blaine Johnson, Ralph Hafen, Forrest Hunter and LeRay McAllister. . stepdaughter, Mrs. Htroia i (Elaine) Patten, Payson; a stepson. step-son. Hin-tze. Salt Lake Cityi The services were conducted by Bishop's Counselor Frank Petty. Speakers were Dr. L. V. Broad-bent, Broad-bent, Charles Redd, and Bishop Giles Bolander. Invocation was by Harry Lunt. Benediction by John Crabtree and the dedication dedica-tion of the grave by Ianthus Wright Trayer at the Mortuary was by Henry L. Jones. The musical program included a vocal solo, "In the Garden" by Mary Sargent, a vocal solo, "Home on the Range" by Forrest Hunter, and a violin solo, "Going Home" by Roy L. Halversen. Prelude Pre-lude and postlude music was by Reed Berrett. |
