Convention Plans Complete i Final plans for the State Junior Chamber of Commerce convention which will be held in Cedar City on August 30, 31 and September 1, were completed early this week, according ac-cording to E. W. Macfarlane, state convention chairman. This will be the second Jaycee state convention to be held here and from all indications, in-dications, said, Mr. Macfarlane, the one this year will prove to be the most successful of any held In the state. Thomas G. Barker, state president, spent Monday and Tuesday in Cedar Ce-dar City meeting with the officers of the local club In connection with the convention, and while here he accompanied J. Dean Fisher, president presi-dent of the Cedar City organization and a national director, E. B. Quist, state vice president, and Mr. Macfarlane to Zlon national park where arrangements were made for the inaugural banquet and dance which will be conducted on the final night of the gathering. Approximately 300 Jaycees, together to-gether with 150 ladies, are expected to register at the convention headquarters head-quarters at the Escalante Hotel on the afternoon of August 30. Following Fol-lowing registration, several com mittee meetings wui oe neia aurmg the afternoon with the pre-conven-tion dance to be held that evening In the Escalante ballroom. Committee meetings will again be held early in the morning of the second day with the first general convention session to convene at 10 a. m. at the Parks Theatre, to be followed by a luncheon meeting at the Escalante. Another general session ses-sion will be held that afternoon, with the "Old Timers'" party for past presidents, state and national directors, scheduled for 4 p. m. at the Sliver Leaf Inn. A buffet theatre the-atre party to be held In the ballroom ball-room of the hotel will bring the second day's activities to a close. On the final day of the convention, conven-tion, the same precedure will be followed as on . the . previous day, with committee meetings, followed by a general session In the morning, luncheon, and another general session ses-sion In the afternoon. Various project pro-ject awards will be presented at the Monday luncheon, and the election of officers and the selection of the 1942 convention city will take place at the afternoon session. Following the final general session, a caravan cara-van will leave Cedar City for Zlon national park where the Inaugural banquet and dance will be held. Special entertainment will be provided pro-vided for the ladles attending the convention, including a luncheon and musical program at the Cedar Breaks Lodge on Sunday and a breakfast at the Escalante Hotel Monday morning, to be followed by an organ recital In the Cedar City L. D. S. First ward church. An outstanding array of speakers will be, present at the convention, according to Mr. Macfarlane, among' them being Walter Finke of Minneapolis, Min-neapolis, Minnesota, newly-elected national president; Ernie Hurst of Billings, Montana, national vice president; O. Meredith Wilson of Provo, Ames K. Bagley of Salt Lake City, and the Honorable Grover Olles, attorney general of Utah. |
