Show f " ... : i? . CARL AND KSTIIKK JKPSON Open House slated to honor Jepsons on 50th anniversary ' An Open House honoring Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Jepson on their golden wedding anniversary will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Presbyterian Church, Sunday, Sun-day, May 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. A program is scheduled to be presented at 3 p.m. All friends of the Jepsons are cordially invited to attend the open house. They have requested no gifts, please. Mr. and Mrs. Jepson, (Carl and Esther) were married at St. John's Luthern Church in Dickinson, N. D. May 30, 1924. They both were teaching near there at the time. Later, Carl was principal of the school at Phillipsburg, Montana for ten years. In the summers, when not attending summer school, he would be employed with the Forest Service. During World War I Carl served with the Marines in France and in World War II he was with the Coast Guard in Oregon. In 1939 Jepson joined the National Park Service and his first assignment was at Petrified Forest in Arizona as a naturalist. Later the Jepsons were transered to the Grand Tetons, where Carl was Chief Naturalist. While in the Grand Tetons he made many contributions in the audio-visual and interpretation programs on Natural History for the visitors' enjoyment and education. In 1955 the Jepsons were transferred to Zion National Park where Mr. Jepson served as Chief Naturalist. Here his countless contributions were highlighted by his work in the Museum and Visitor Center. The Jepsons searched, out and photographed the wild flowers of Zion, Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks, and published a comprehensive com-prehensive test on the subject. In 1966 the Jepsons retired from the National Park Service and have since lived in Cedar City. At their retirement party at Zion, a book of letters from some of the many Park Service people who had the privilege of knowing the Jepsons during their many years of service, indicated the high esteem in which they are both held. Many of them made note of the wonderful help Mrs. Jepson has been, giving her much credit for Mr. Jepson's high success in his field. The love, congratulations and good wishes of this community as well as that of their relatives and friends far and wide, go out to Mr. and Mrs. Jepson as they celebrate their golden wedding. |
