If even after careful skimming there still remain particles of grease floating on the. top of soup, lay a piece of clean brown paper over for a moment, so that it just touches the soup, and the grease will cling to it. Grease on "Wood. If you upset hot fat on the kitchen table or floor, pour cold water over it at once. This cools the fat and prevents pre-vents it from spreading and sinking into the wood. To remove the greasy spots scrub thoroughly with hot soda water and sand. Brushes and Brooms. These last longer and do better work if they have an occasional bath. Add two tablespoon fuls; of household ammonia am-monia to half a gallon of water, let tlr bristles stand in this for half an hour, rinse thoroughly, and hand in a cool place to dry. You can't expect a dirty brush to sweep atoom satisfactorily. A Pretty Cushion For Pins Is made of tw o brl'erwood pipes crossed and tied together with ribbons. The bowls are fitted with tiny plush cushions cush-ions to match the ribbon. A loop of the ribbon may be placed where the pipes cross, for suspending them from the wall, or they may be arranged to stand on the dressing table. For Spring Cleaning. A very convenient article to have in a house is a smooth, strong stick about forty, inches long, with a deep notch in one end. With this, pictures may be lifted by the wires from their hooks, brushed and replaced, thus saving the climbing up and down on a stepladder, which is so tiresome to a woman. To Remove Black Ink. If you upset black ink on the white tablecloth or splash it on your cuffs, pour a little red ink upon the spot, and when the article is washed the stain will entirely disappear. If no red ink is at hand, sponge with milk. In either case the remedy must be applied at onoe if it is to be! successful. To Clean Old Brass. Old brass that has got discolored can me cleaned and make to look like new if scrubbed with paraffin and powdered Bath brick. Use a fairly stiff brush, and when all stain has been removed, polish with a finely powdered Bath brick only, using a soft cloth, and then give a final rub with a chamois leather, A Use For. Tea Leaves. Save old tea leaves for a few days, pour boiling, water over them, leave till nearly cold, strain, and use the water for washing paint. It gets off stains very easily and quickly. Clean white paint by rubbing with a damp flannel whic h has been dipped in whiting. Soda should never be used in washing paint, as it injures the color. A Use For Egg Shells. Save eggshells, and use them to clean water bottles, cruets, etc. First wash in the ordinary way.' then crush the shells rather fine, partly fill the article to be cleaned with them, pour in a little lit-tle warm soapsuds, and shake well. Rinse with cold water, and stand upside up-side down to dry. ; Pepper cruets, or anything that needs to be specially well dried inside, should be turned upside down under the tap, and the water allowed al-lowed to run on them for ten minutes. |
