Show IS GOVERNOR ROOSEVELT AN ANARCHIST? The New York Herald quotes Governor Gover-nor Roosevelt as follows in reference to the situation which existed in Kentucky Ken-tucky at the tmie of Governor Goebel'a death: "Mr. Taylor is governor by every principle of law and equity, and he and his follower: must of course, resist to the last extremity the reckless and unscrupulous un-scrupulous conspirators who are endeavoring en-deavoring to ceo . by violence, after election, what they failed to accomplish accom-plish by the most scandalous fraud prior to and during election." It ia awful to contemplate these words, coming from the governor of the greatest state in the Union. With the political questions, involved we have nothing to d ), and they can be passed over in silence. But when Governor Roosevelt applauds a man like Taylor, who has. oinrjy cTefied the courts and spurned their actions with contempt, he brands himself as an anarchist pure and simple. Men were hung a few years ago in Chicago,, for saying less, than Governor Roosevelt said in the following: "Under no circumstances whatever should there be any backdown- by Gov ernor Taylor and the lawful law-ful government authorities in Kentucky, Ken-tucky, and they are entitled to the hearty backirjg of . all good and law-abiding law-abiding citizens throughout the Union." In counseling contempt con-tempt of law, Governor Roosevelt should be heartily ashamed of himself, as we. have no doubt that the people who elected him, when they read his wordw quoted above, are heartily sorry for their action: |
