Show J Items From St. Elizabeth Parish. (Correspondence InterTr.ountain Catho'ic.') The feast of the Purification on the '2nd inst. was observed with due solemnity sol-emnity appropriate to the day. and ; same having been the first Friday of I the month, dedicated to the . Sacred I Heart, the usual custom of exposition j of the BlesEvad Sacrament from the first i mass at 6 a. m. until after the late mass, which was a solemn high mass at 8:30, was also observed. An astonishingly aston-ishingly large number of people at-tended at-tended divine service and received the i oacraments, mus snowing m me moyc i forcible manner the ever increasing de-I de-I voticn to the Sacred Heart, which, strange to say, had in the past been scarcely noticeable. - This 's encouraging, encour-aging, to say the least, especially to those whose every effort is- directed toward promoting this great work. The parochial school shows a marked I improveVnent over, other years, the scholarship being: almost double that cf last year, and four Sisters being in constant attendance, a fact heretofore unknown. Some greatly needed repairs have been added to St. Charles' Orphanage, at present sheltering 125 children. The little ones should certainly appreciate the zeal and energy of the good Sisters Sis-ters in making the home so comfortable comforta-ble and pleasant. We "wonder if the public realizes the hardships incurred caring for so , many, the complete charge being placed on a few overworked over-worked women! Truly, this must be Christian charity in its entirety. If it is not, we'd like to know what is. Last Friday evening a few friends cf j Air. and Mrs. N. Keller gathered at their cozy little heme to do honor and to offer congratulations to Mrs. Keller on the event of her 37th birthday, and, by the way, succeeded in offering her at the same time a complete surprise in the presentation of a very pretty lsmp, the gift of her friends. The clergy of the parish, too, were present, and such an enjoyable evening as they all had is seldom spent ;and only when the clock pointed to the danger signal last car was it possible to declare the meeting adjourned. Mr. and Mrs. Keller had better be on the lookout. The success of this effort was so satisfactory sat-isfactory that there is a possibility of a repetition. The familiar figure of Miss Rose Wernert, sister of Mrs. J. A. Osner, who recently returned to her home in Toledo, O., is being sadly missed by her friends, so. -accustomed to seeing her occupy the usual seat in the church. Though you are gone from among us. Rose, you are not forgotten, and we look forward with pleasure to your speedy return to us. to remain permanently. |
